Obama Says No to the Party of No January 24th, 2009 By ROBERT STEIN

Print

At the White House yesterday, the President made it clear that his Inaugural message to Muslims “on the wrong side of history”–that “we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist”–applies to Congressional Republicans as well.

Responding to Rep. Eric Cantor’s objection to the proposal to increase benefits for low-income workers who don’t owe federal income taxes, Obama reminded him of the November election results. “I won,” he said. “I trump you on that.”

He also suggested to Cantor, John Boehner, Jon Kyl and other leaders of the GOP’s negative wing, “You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.”

Eager as Obama is for bipartisan support for his efforts to prop up the economy and the financial system, these are the first small signs that he may be willing to take some lessons from the Rahm Emanuel school of political hardball.

In the Senate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had a near-death experience in the November balloting, seems to have gotten the memo.

“I realize,” he said yesterday, ‘that if you told most people Mitch McConnell was down at the National Press Club hoping for bipartisanship, they’d tell you that’s like an insurance agent hoping for an earthquake. Most people don’t exactly view me as the Mr. Rogers of the Senate.”

But, he added, “Everybody believes that government action is necessary. This is coming out of the mouth of someone who doesn’t normally advocate government action as a first resort.”

If Obama is going to treat Muslims the way he treat Republicans. I don’t see much progress. He’s basically saying, lets be friend, my way or the highway, remember I won. Not much compromise there

DemocRATs have the majority in both houses and can pass any damn bill them want. They don’t need Republican votes.
Bi-partisan solutions are a tool for Democrats to spread the blame to Republicans when things go bad. The republicans we have elected are too stooooooopid to figure that out.

Quite frankly, Republicans just need to step back and vote no on everything. It will be painful for America as the RATS destroy the country, but in the long term, the only way for Republicans to get control back and set America back on course is to let the RATS destroy themselves.

Unfortunately, with a few exceptions, the group of Republicans in office are the weakest I have ever seen.

“I won,” he said. “I trump you on that.”

Reminds me when George Bush said he was going to spend "political capital" in reforming Social Security.

That was the beginning of the end . . .

“Not much compromise there...”

Precisely why I’ve been trying to get the message across that there is no such thing as “reaching across the aisle”, or “negotiating” with the Leftists aka; Democrats.

The Republicans blew it years ago when they didn’t realize the Democrat Party became the Socialist Party.

Better late than never. Wake up Republicrats and look in the mirror, or do the Socialist/Democrats not show reflection as Vampires do not?

Hmmmmmm maybe that’s the reason we are in the problems we are today.

Do think that McConnell twitches his leg when he rolls over and lets Obama scratch his belly?

That's especially true if we give up. Like it or not, we're still their constituents and have every right to make demands on the democrats as the people who voted for them do. After all, we manage to drag the occasional good vote out of Debbie Stabenow here in Michigan. (mostly due to threats of voting her out)

Personally I believe we and the RINOs in Washington are just as responsible for the far left drive of the democrats as they themselves are. Giving up = giving permission.

He is, But we have been led by the lamest crew in Congress, & McLame would of frustrated us all as well.
Zero will not care or remember that almost 47 million did not go his way.

Zero has NO mandate, If Republicans don't focus on the next cycle, the wilderness is where we will stay. But I really don't see anybody pulling it together -yet.

11/5/04 Bush: "Let me put it to you this way: I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it. It is my style." and "I've got will of the people"

Exactly, it was all downhill from there...

Hubris will get you everytime.

It makes sense. His muslim understanding of bipartisan is the islamic definition “peace=death”, islam means ‘submission, so, Republicans, you must submit, and then there will be peace. We are headed for some hard times.

When are Republicans going to realize that you cannot work with Democrats? Democrats need to be DESTROYED. I sorry, but I don't have much sympathy on behalf of the Republicans. They easily could have taken Obama out during the campaign but refused to do so. Now they reap what they sow. Serves them right - either stand your ground or continue losing support from your base.
