A Month in the Life of George W Bush (news and photos): January 2009
www.whitehouse.gov/news www.yahoo.com/news | 22nd January 2009 | Snugs

Posted on 01/22/2009 4:58:15 PM PST by snugs

We have discussed both on the dose and privately via freepmail as to what we may do in the future of the dose.

It is suggested that a thread is posted where anyone can post photos or news of George W Bush and if you so wish any other member of his administration as to what they are doing or hope to do in the future and the idea is that this thread will cover January 2009 news and photos as well as being a recap of the last few days of the George W Bush Presidency plus events that took place a few hours afterwards in Texas and for the Vice President in Wyoming.

Enjoy the ongoing Sanity Island for January 2009

I can understand about the desk but I thought it was part of White House tradition for the First Lady to design a new rug during the first term.

I must say it surprises me about the rug and what does it say about Michelle design taste that he prefers one designed by the previous first lady.

I thought people might appreciate it after the 20th. I felt though to be true to the events that I had to show photos of 0 but I was very selective and only showed them for historic reasons plus the one I liked of GWB interacting with 0’s children showing his love for kids.

One could turn it round and say evil was on all American’s heads the day she was appointed speaker

I saved the text before it came off the White House website here is the quote you mean. ""Tonight I am filled with gratitude -- to Vice President Cheney and members of my administration; to Laura, who brought joy to this house and love to my life; to our wonderful daughters, Barbara and Jenna; to my parents, whose examples have provided strength for a lifetime. And above all, I thank the American people for the trust you have given me. I thank you for the prayers that have lifted my spirits. And I thank you for the countless acts of courage, generosity, and grace that I have witnessed these past eight years.

""

We Yanks enjoy a British royal scandal now and again. It reminds us why we revolted.

We do however have our own “royal” families, like the Kennedys. Never mind the fact that good old Joe made the family fortune running booze during the prohibition era and consorting with the Mafia. Politically, the Kennedy clan are our version of “royalty”. They can get away murder, rape, etc.

I wished I had started sooner. I found them in the Essays. I wished I wished I had known sooner that they are there. I thought once they took them off they were gone forever.

I have bookmarked The White House archive site

I didn't know that every First Lady designs the rug for the White House, but I know Laura designed that one.

Maybe it's just as well that he keeps it. Michele would probably design an ugly one

Thanks for this beautiful thread, snugs.

It still seems unbelievable that 8 years have gone by so quickly.

I love the idea of a monthyly thread. Hopefully there will be some good pix. If not, I know you have a treasure trove of pictures that we can enjoy.

Still praying for your Dad, and you. Glad to hear he is home, and on the mend.

Hubby and I just got back home from our trip to Texas late last night and were both back in our respective offices this morning . . . Needless to say, we’re both ‘wiped’!

I will share more about our trip this weekend; however, LUV W has already done a wonderful job capturing the WELCOME HOME in both word and photos — I must say, it’s hard to describe just what it was like to be within a few feet of President Bush as he delivered his heartfelt comments this past Tuesday. I get teary just thinking about it!

In the meantime, I just finished viewing the following video and was reduced to tears within seconds — get your kleenex box handy and watch this MUST VIEW videoclip narrated by Barbara and Jenna Bush:

Video: JENNA’S AND BARBARA’S ADVICE TO SASHA AND MALIA
[This video is actually a beautiful, loving tribute to an amazing father — George W Bush!]

After you finish wiping your tears, read the following commentary by Karl Rove:

BUSH WAS RIGHT WHEN IT MATTERED MOST
By KARL ROVE
Its call sign has always been Air Force One. But on Tuesday, it was Special Air Mission 28000, as former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura returned home to Texas on a plane full of family, friends, former staff and memories of eight years in the White House.

The former president and his wife thanked each passenger, showing the thoughtfulness and grace so characteristic of this wonderful American family.

A video tribute produced warm laughter and inevitable tears. There was no bitterness, but rather a sense of gratitude — gratitude for the opportunity to serve, for able and loyal colleagues, and above all for our country and its people.

You can read the entire commentary here:
