Excerted...When you read the article you will understand why I mentioned said it was sad. Lots of mistakes on both sides of this story.

After watching the local news story a few minutes ago....I have to ask: How can all the adults, school officials included, let this schedule happen?

This is ridiculous. It’s not like the team they defeated had Down Syndrome! They had ADD. Which means worst case scenario they’re hyper brats. They didn’t lose 100-0 because they’re handicapped they lost because, apparently, they aren’t any good.

Good call. The coach of Covenant should be embarrassed.

At my kids school they bring these kinds of schools in and feed them and lead them through a day of school

then play a fun game with the second and third string playing the whole time.

That way the kids with problems in their past see what its like to be with good kids who dont judge them.

The school has nothing to apologize for, except maybe not playing to run out the clock after it became apparent it was not contest. It’s the governing body that scheduled the game that should be embarrassed.

At this stage of the game (pun noted), a forfeit is meaningless.

Every team that played the Det. Lions should forfeit too.

This story is made to order for Katie or Matt especially if they can find some Republican parents on the winning side. I can just see them trying to interview the losing side as one by one of the girls wanders off camera.

Pffft...all they had to do after 1/2 time was take shot clock violations and “blow” defensive rebounds—fouled them, put them on the charity stripe. That would have helped them score.

Reminds me of a very, very old Mohammed Ali (sp), bruised and beaten, slumped in a chair, listening to his former sparring partner, Larry Holmes, at a post fight press conference.

Having beaten Ali mercilessly, Holmes went on and on about how much he respected Ali- when Ali interrupted--"If you respected me so much, why'd you whup me so bad?"

The whole purpose of basketball is to play to win. They did so without cheating or dirty play, so what’s the beef? Would the team that lost want something less than a best effort by their opponent? Just W H Y are they playing the sport if they don’t want to take a chance on losing?

I can remember womens college basketball games back in the ‘80s when scores would be 82-14. And these were common!

“victory without honor is a great loss.”

That is what I say about the last presidential election. It also applies to the Franken Fiasco.

The apology is sufficient, I think. Hopefully these girls learned a lesson in sportsmanship.

Whoever decided to apologize for the game should be fired, then laughed at mercilessly. There is no reason for these girls to apologize. If the losing team was a bunch of disabled kids, or they just stunk to high heaven, that's the fault of the people who scheduled the game, or the crappy coach of the losing team, not the girls who came to play.

For God's sake, people, sports are meant to challenge people and build character. They are not some hippie self-esteem exercise. If I were on a team that was getting beaten that bad, I would either forfeit and go home, or keep playing my heart out and expecting the other team to do the same. A game played with one side throwing the game is a farce, a meaningless dog and pony show. And if I suspected that hte other team was flubbing on purpose because they felt sorry for me, I would be extremely insulted.

Quite frankly, it sounds like the girls of the losing team need to get used to the idea of losing and losing big. They certainly aren't going to learn a thing about reality if everyone keeps propping them up artificially.

Girls high school basketball, who cares. There is nothing sad nor is the entire story worth reading. It was only about 3 paragraphs.

Absolutely no class on the part of the coaches of the winning team. Running up the score at any level from tee ball to professional sports is BS and unacceptable and anybody who’s spent any time coaching should know that. I’ve coached baseball for many years at all age levels and I’d come pretty close to strangling a coach who didn’t get that. No, I’m not a puss. I’ve coached a team that won a Little League state championship and have a nephew who currently plays major league baseball. You don’t do it. Period.

The winning team should have “backed off” is what stood out for me. So the winning team should not play to the best of their ability?
