WASHINGTON -- President Obama, putting his executive pen in his left hand to overrule eight years of Bush administration policy, signed "several" executive orders Thursday, including ones affecting national security and abortion.

The national security orders mandate that interrogation techniques in the Army Field Manual be used by all intelligence and law enforcement services; call for a task force to look at closing the detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, within the year; and order a strategy be developed for handling detainees in the future. The presidential directive also orders a stay in the case of Ali Al-Marri, the only person being held by the military as an enemy combatant on U.S. soil.

This is a return to the policy of weakness that existed throughout the 1990’s and led to the 9/11 attacks.

Bears repeating. Liberals/socialists hate America so much they have no problem with this policy.

God Save America....

I face some of the same comments about California. Folks advocate it breaking off as well.

My opinion of these ideas is that they are not only a sad reflection on the state of the nation, but more importantly the state of individual points of view.

We once were unified, but now our first reaction is to think of self or how we can break away and abandon the nation we supposedly love.

I want to hear plans to get this nation on track. I’m not interested in hearing how some special interest groups have determined how to save themselves and write off the rest of the nation.

I realize those comments weren’t your own. Don’t take this as a personal insult.

"call for a task force to look at closing the detention center in Guantanamo Bay"

Odd, the news is reporting that he gave an order to close Gitmo within a year. Instead he called for a study group, or task force. Do you think he'll ask for a correction so that they report actual fact, as a transparent process would?

The military vote was lost by Obama today.

Completely lost.

He is no longer (in my mind) their commander in chief.

Our enemies abroad are now lauding the investment they made in his election, Iran has already told us to stay out of their affairs
S.2433: A bill to require the President to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day

"This bill subordinates U.S. foreign policy to the U.N. and commits us to fulfill what are called the U.N. Millennium goals -- That is, 0.7 percent of GNP to foreign aid. And that means we've got to come up $845 billion" http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext

Main sponsor of this bill B Husein Obama

I realize that his EO was related to a committee, but this is a committee to facilitate the closing. He stated, “...to facilitate the closing no longer than a year from now.”

As for what he will ask the media to do, I don’t think any of us realizes what his actions to the press will be when all is said and done.

Yes, I can understand the reasoning behind your comments. Unfortunately, he will still be the CIC for four years. Yikes!

I would suggest a campaign that says to the left, this is what your votes have ushered in. Now deal with it...

Believe me, in time they’ll be unable to avoid understanding that they really screwed up.

Yes, I was aware of this. It’s one more travesty this man will usher in.

He’s not delusional. Either he’s naive/inexperienced, or he’s intentionally weakening the country.

Either way, I’m OK with it, and for the simple reason that actions have consequences. This is the second time there has been a D congress and a D president.

I’m hoping that, if there is anything left of the United States, that it will be the very last time.

A ton of people are going to get hurt, or die, in the process. I’m not sure it could have been avoided, since even our side of the aisle fails to see much use in fulfilling their responsibilities as the loyal opposition.

If the left doesn’t think the US is worth saving, they can choose a new set of masters. They can pick from Muslims, Russians, or Chinese.

This theory that the present administration can overreach is false. They can go as far as they want. They have the press, the government, academia, and Hollywood on their side.

Let’s see how the average joe likes the counterpoint to Jefferson’s theory of government, which is to say that its evil.

The conventional wisdom has been that logic, that history, and empirical evidence are all outmoded. We’re going to find out.

If you read it carefully, it’s all still in campaign mode.

He orders a task force to look into closing it in a year.

So what? That is not opening the cell doors. That’s appointing a committee of probably campaign donors to get paid to provide him with a policy paper. It does nothing.
