Just FYI for all Americans. Today is January 21, 2009. It is the 91st birthday of a great American, Major Dick Winters, of Band of Brothers fame. As usual, I have sent Major Winters a happy birthday card. I hope he gets it as the family no longer takes requests or fan mail. I wish him many more.
Happy birthday Sir. I’ll have a drink in your honor since you still probably abstain.
Ditto!
Happy birthday, Major winters.
Great figure, it was interesting reading about him, and them seeing the protrayal on Band of Brothers.
What a real hero, this man is. The word is thrown around a lot but this man exemplified the definition.
He fulfilled his promise to god that after the war he would find a quiet piece of land and live in peace the rest of his life. I saw an interview with him and he was asked about that promise. Some beavers were causing some problems on his property and he wouldn’t exterminate them like most people do because he valued all life.
Happy Birthday! We owe you so very much.
God Bless Happy Birthday and Many more.
Happy Birthday, Major Winters. Thank you, Sir.
You are a true hero.
We enjoyed that mini-series immensely, and have watched it several times, when it appears on the History or Military channels.
I bought "Band of Brothers" but haven't gotten around to reading it. I'd also like to read Major Winters' autobiography.
He was quite the handsome young man, wasn’t he? He’s still handsome!
Do you have the DVD set of BoB? The interviews and extra’s are the best part.
Happy Birthday Major Winters. May God Bless you with many more. Thank you and the rest of the “Greatest Generation” for your sacrifices to keep us safe and free.
My Uncle was in the 325th Glider and was in HQ Btn, 82nd Airborne. He more than likely served with Maj Winters early but he was killed in the Atlas Mountains right before the invasion of Sicily.
I thought Dick Winters passed away last year. All the same he was.another hero from the greatest generation.
Recently finished his personal memoir, “Beyond Band of Brothers”. A very good read, with some extra detail, and follow up on his life afterwards, and his friendship with Steven Ambrose. Well worth the time. If one had to make a list of Americans to look up to and exemplify, I would place him along side of George Washington, George Washington Carver, and Ronald Reagan. A superb citizen-soldier!
Yes, they are the best part. I got mine for Christmas three or four years ago.
Highly recommend it to everyone.
I didn’t know about his book, I’ll have to pick it up.
Thanks for mentioning it!
Happy Birthday, Major Winters!
LOVE BoB! I choke up when I hear the theme music. When it premiered on HBO, my Dad (101st, Vietnam and Ft. Campbell) hadn’t heard of it, and I was so impressed that I taped every episode for him (parents never get premium channels.) He later bought the DVDs when they were available.
I am hoping to get to Normandy and Bastogne next year with Dad.
Happy birthday, Major Winters and thank you for your service to America and to our freedom and way of life. We are indebted to you and all who have honorably worn our nations uniform.
