ANTI-TERROR bosses last night hailed their latest ally in the war on terror the BLACK DEATH.
At least 40 al-Qaeda fanatics died horribly after being struck down with the disease that devastated Europe in the Middle Ages.
The killer bug, also known as the plague, swept through insurgents training at a forest camp in Algeria, North Africa. It came to light when security forces found a body by a roadside.
The victim was a terrorist in AQLIM (al-Qaeda in the Land of the Islamic Maghreb), the largest and most powerful al-Qaeda group outside the Middle East.
It trains Muslim fighters to kill British and US troops.
Now al-Qaeda chiefs fear the plague has been passed to other terror cells or Taliban fighters in Afghanistan

Thanks Jet Jaguar.
OPINION: That’s a good question.
Could it be they were doing their daily functions out in nature with their pants down? I don’t know.
What a way to die.

The genus of the organism, while formerly Pasteurella, is now Yersinea. It was moved to the Enterobacteriaceae (the family to which most normal intestinal gram negative rods belong) because it ferments glucose and is oxidase negative. Most members of the genus Pasteurella are oxidase positive.

I think military members going to places like iraq & afghanistan, et. al., received plague vaccinations, along with a host of other innoculations.

‘Maybe THEY were trying to use bioweapons.’
For sure, a total possibility. Achmed accidentally dropped a vial of something nasty on his way to an ‘I Hate America’ rally/buffet dinner, and wham! They drop like flies. Hey, whatever works...

My age is showing. My "current" copy of Bergey's manual dates to 1973. My last academic work with bacteria dates to the Spring of 1977. Thanks for the physiology update and reasoning for reclassification.

I hadn’t heard of that incident. However, lots of nasty stuff on a cargo ship. We carried a hazardous cargo printout (large sheet) 1-1/2 inches thick of all such cargo on board for each trans-Pacific voyage. I doubt the pirates asked for or could even read the document.
I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn last night but I did have a plague vaccination 40 years ago.

Anybody look at the photo in the Sun story of them kicking in the door? Look at the two guys standing on either side of the opening. They are pointing their pistols at each other.
:)
HA!!

...no worries, Just rosacea, controlled with tetracycline, only 5 cents a day. Wish I inherited the wit of W.C. “Bill” Fields, that had this disorder, along with others, Rembrandt, Diana Frances, William J. Clinton, Mariah Carey, et al. (from wikipedia, my favorite web site after FR)...
...My dog didn’t have rosacea, he was 16 years with me and my wife and took his last breaths in my arms Jan 13, 2009. He’s gone to rest, snd I’ll be with him when I go to rest...
...Thanks to you fer yer kindly response...
