Barack Obama's historic train ride to Washington on Saturday drew large, cheering crowds of people who braved freezing weather and gathered along the tracks in cities and small towns along the way in hopeful anticipation of getting a glimpse of the nation's next president.
In Baltimore, Maryland, alone, about 40,000 people stood shoulder-to-shoulder in the cold to greet Obama as he stopped on his way to his Tuesday inauguration.
His welcome was raucous and animated, as the sea of people cheered, waved and took pictures. Tears rolled down one woman's face as Obama spoke. "We love you, Obama!" another yelled out. "I love you back," Obama answered calmly, eliciting a roar from the crowd.
The same emotions were expressed up and down the tracks on the 137-mile journey, a trip that started in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and retraced the train ride Abraham Lincoln took on his way to becoming president in 1861. Watch Obama share the love »
As he did so often during his campaign, Obama drew upon American history in his remarks to pose a parallel to the country's current challenges. He noted the struggles of the colonials, the "first patriots," against the British.
"They were willing to put all they were and all they had on the line," Obama told the crowd in Baltimore. "Their lives, their fortune, and sacred honor for a set of ideals that continue to light the world: that we are all equal. That our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness come not from our laws but from our Maker."
Later he said, "the American Revolution was, and remains, an ongoing struggle in the minds and hearts of the people."

Only he does NOT want the people INDEPENDENT of the government, he wants them TOTALLY dependent. Other than that, it’s LIKE independence.
He is an idiot. A red pinko idiot to declare that the American Revolution is “still going on” in the hearts and minds of Americans. He really doesn’t get it what our founding fathers were after.
He’s being painted as Lincoln, FDR, and now with this New Declaration business as Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin.A normal man, even a normal politician, would never seriously accept this kind of idolatry. Obama revels in it and I thi nk believes it. People who believe they are messiahs are to be feared. If not for what they intend, then for what their meglomania could result in. You’re right this is scary.
EVERY inauguration is historic. It is BULLSTALIN for the media to insist that only this one is.
I think your comparison is quite valid. People were scared in Germany at that time the same as they are now here. Any Messianic figure appearing on the scene will attract the masses.
Think this rated a barf alert - also want to point out that on Drudge, the FBI and the like are getting very wary of internet chatter that borders the line of threatening the Prez-select. Free speech notwithstanding and Hollywood hasn’t taken over the country yet so opposing views are still allowed - I think - but just thought I’d throw this out to all my beloved Freepers. God bless...
What these people are really "in love with" is a world they think exists but does not.
They are in love with a world where lazy and irresponsible people who don't work are still given lots of money by someone benevolent.
They want to believe so badly that they have no role in the mess they've made of their own lives.
They are victims of a rigged game and they fervently wish for a savior who will feel sorry for them and give them everything they could ever want.
In short, they are immature idiots.
If you can blame somebody else for your problems, you don't have to lift a finger. You can demand someone else solve your problems.
Is anyone thinking of abandoning the internet (conservative message boards) at midnight of January 19th? I'm more jittery than I was November 5.
We knew THAT was coming. I think I'm going to write my opus...
I thought the lying son of a bitch was loved by everyone. Why fear the people? Don't we all love the guy?
And we will get to stand back shaking our heads and telling our co workers who “got in our face” that we were right about his slime and they were wrong.
God doesn't think he is Obama.
Oh no...That is not what I meant...I know for a fact we’ll still be around...
But will we be a factor in countering the inevitable blitz of socialism that will inundate the already prepared minds of mush out there, and can we effectively challenge the intellectually lazy crowd to see it when the time comes to make the adjustments needed in 2010 and 2012...
I thought there were going to be 150,000! I’m not sure about the 40,000 either. They sure cleared out fast...
Quite
We need a Declaration of Independence for a virtual Gault’s Gulch.
My thought, exactly. This is NOT good folks. Not good at all.
here’s a quote that the lib/dems would love to hear, “”Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends.”
He surely nearly kills me, but liberals are litteraly killed by him. I’m waiting to see them jump in the Hudson at the first executive order of his. The liberal media has done a pretty good job of this. Wall Street does not exist anymore but is only a bunch of bail out beggers with knee pads, and it goes on.
0 will be our Evita Peron
“Don’t cry for me Kenya”
He will sweep away the work of the Founders and give us something much "better". And the media will call him a new Washington, a new Father of the Country.
