Casey Arneson may not get the award for Most Righteous Nonsmoker of the Year, but he should probably be a nominee -- depending how you feel about the continuing war between smokers and nonsmokers.

Arneson, 22, won the battle outside of the Depot tavern, at 627 W. Main St., in the early morning hours of Dec. 27, but he may have lost his personal war when he was charged Friday with battery for punching a smoker.

And these same people would never confront the obese this way.

I get told ad nauseum I shouldn't smoke, it's unhealthy, blah, blah, blah.

Yet it's hands off of the overweight and obese. Next time some fatty tells me I shouldn't smoke, I'm going to tell them they shouldn't eat so much and please don't tell me it's due to your unique metabolism and some disease.

And also don't tell me that, unlike smokers, their weight doesn't affect me. My job entails direct patient care and I've strained my back more times than I can count while repositioning or assisting in getting them in and out of bed. And, with few exceptions, the obese are on the call bell more than others to get the nurse or assistant to get something they could reach or do for themselves.

And what kills me about people complaining about the smokers and their smoke in the great outdoors - the smoke from a cigarette dissapates in a few seconds. I don't hear any of them moaning about the exhaust from the dozens of cars, trucks, tractor trailers, buses going by them.

Thank you all for letting me vent.

'Did you attend the “Curtis Lemay School of Diplomacy?” '

Let's just say that a career in the foreign service would not have been beneficial to any parties involved.

If you are not smokers, I totally understand. I would fully respect Mrs Mag’s wishes and go outside to smoke.

Mrs. MAG and I differ on that. I would let you smoke in the house and she wouldn’t. We’re both ex smokers. I still like the smell and she doesn’t. In the interest of marital harmony I defer to her wishes.

It’s been my experience that smokers are almost always mindful of others when they smoke. It’s the antis that are rude and demanding of the smokers.

Talk about belaboring the obvious...

I haven't spoken to my wife in over three months...we're not fighting or anything, I just don't like to interrupt.

If you get to close to me while I am smoking and smoke gets in your face tough shit.

Lol, I haven't seen this much b***h'n and whining in a long time - well except from my six year old.

Yeah, smoke-nazis are little crybaby sissies and it is a wonder they can keep their McDonald’s jobs.

I'm not so sure about that. John Bolton was right for the position of Ambassador to the UN. He would be the the perfect pick for Secretary of State.

When I was a smoker, I was threatened by an obese man who smelled my cigarette half a block away. I was smoking outside, and he chugged his was over to me and told me to put the thing out right now because I wasn't in an approved smoking area. I said no, and he started to put his stuff down so he could hit me. Looked like he was about to die from the overexertion, so I went ahead and put it out and went back inside.

I'm glad to be out of that game. Smoking is in the top five list of dumbest things I've ever done. That being said, violent psychopaths should be involuntarily committed and treated for their mental illness.

The antismoking movement is doing more to keep that last 15 percent smoking than the tobacco companies are. Their strategy to get people to quit is totally wrong and only makes people cling to the habit more firmly. And it’s sad, because we were only getting duped when we thought that continuing to smoke was a finger in anyone’s eye other than our own.

The woman, who is white, then began swearing and shouting racist slurs at Whyte, who is black, according to several witnesses.

This statement sounds like it has the makings of an Abbott & Costello exchange.

The woman was white?
No, the man was Whyte.
Well, who was black?
The man was...

I did not see it as a push back as so much as rudeness. There were no ashtrays or smoker poles and they chose to litter the place vice keep it clean. Bad call.

They were civilians without the military experince you cited.

“...pounding on a man while he was down ...”

I believe in NY this can up the charges to ‘aggrivated assult’ and puts the striker up for much heavier charges.
