Casey Arneson may not get the award for Most Righteous Nonsmoker of the Year, but he should probably be a nominee -- depending how you feel about the continuing war between smokers and nonsmokers.
Arneson, 22, won the battle outside of the Depot tavern, at 627 W. Main St., in the early morning hours of Dec. 27, but he may have lost his personal war when he was charged Friday with battery for punching a smoker.

Oh Madison, you’ve embarrassed yourself again!
According to the perp, the smokers shouldn’t have been smoking, presumably because the perp thinks it’s not healthy to smoke.
BUT he thinks pummeling someone IS good for a person’s health?
I’d go for a civil lawsuit on that guy and bleed him dry.
I hate cigarette smoke, but the bans in Madison in the bars are going too far. Putting bars out of business. I don’t like smoke, so I just stay out of bars. Smokers should not have to leave a bar to smoke, unless the OWNER of the bar has declared it smoke-free, not the local libtard government.
I work in a building owned and operated by a major bank. One of their Vice Presidents made such a scene (with his toddler in hand) about people smoking near the door about a month ago that people in the lobby and the security guards were wondering if he was actually going to do something. That’s how crazy he was acting. The building manager and some of his security guards told me that this wasn’t the first time he acted in this fashion and that he constantly complains. I told the building manager that his bosses need to have a discussion with him.
You sound like you have the ‘me me me’ attitude that forced all of the smokers into one area.
Sounds like they knew each other and there was some animosity. It’s clear this really had nothing to do with smoking.
Sounds like a jealous insane stalker who has the hots for this girl and doesn’t like her talking to other men.
That’s what I was thinking as well. Hi, there! :-)
While that could be the case, it really doesn’t matter - does it?
Just another in a long (and getting longer) list of a smoker being assaulted by an anti.
TheMom is a firm believer in the "if I am paying for this place, I will do what I want" philosophy. We are smokers ~ smoking is allowed in our house.
I have a hard time understanding those smokers that do not smoke inside their own homes.
(1) Sue him for everything he owns or will ever own.
(2) Prosecute him for assault and battery with griveous bodily harm or however they define an attack one step below attempted murder.
(3) Lock him up for as long as we would lock up any other predator who poses a danger to decent people.
(4) Make sure his cellmate is a smoker, just for the entertainment value.
Their = There. Gees.
Yes it does sound exactly like that is the case. But the lib press had to make it something else.
I think it does matter. You did a good job of pulling the crux of the article out and proving why the headline and the first two sentences were inconsistent with the real story.
Then these “journalists” wonder why their papers are going under and they are unemployed.
It wouldn’t have mattered if the woman was inside eating celery sticks with this other man. This drunken jealous idiot would have assaulted him anyway.
She probably rejected him months ago.
You and me both!
Mrs Mag doesn’t allow smoking in her house (I live there too). She quit shortly before I did for the same reasons. I do allow it in my garage and trucks. Like I said before I still like the smell.
Rabid anti-smokers want to use the force of government to enforce their preferences on others. Classic fascists.
Who would blame her?
Even if the smoking wasn't the "cause" of the Ahole acting like an Ahole, there are far, far too many instances of smokers actually being attacked for just being a smoker and the media needs to finally acknowledge that simple fact ---- considering how complicit the media was in forcing the smokers to be outside to begin with.
You can say that again! Good to see your post Gabz!
I’ve been a considerate smoker for 37 years. But with the attitude displayed by you becoming popular there is no longer any reason to be considerate.
Why complain about smoking outside? Designated smoking rooms wasn’t good enough and Smoke Nazis complained about inside and chased smokers outside. Now, ya’ll complain about that too?
What next? Demand different diets so flatulence isn’t offensive too?
And people wonder why smokers have gotten an attitude.........
It is people like you that cause normally nice, polite people to behave out of character.
