Compañera Panetta, with Hugo Chavez and Daniel Ortega
January 10, 2009

Daniel Ortega smiles on, at left. You saw it here first.
If the adult daughter of a CIA Director-designate hangs out with sworn enemies of the United States, it's a matter for the United States Senate to probe aggressively. And so the Senate really has to ask some very pointed questions about Linda Panetta, daughter of President-Elect Obama's pick to lead the CIA, and her ties to Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega and Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez.
Linda Panetta is a noted anti-military activist who has accused the US military of teaching Latin American officers how to torture. She has also been close to causes hostile toward the United States and friendly to the old Soviet Union, and the regimes in Cuba, Venezuela and Iran.
As a leader of School of the Americas Watch, Panetta urged Chavez to cancel Venezuela's participation in the US military school for Latin American officers in Fort Benning, Georgia. Chavez agreed, and promptly did so. As such, Compañera Panetta helped sever an important link between the US and the Venezuelan officer corps. This is a big blow to US intelligence efforts in the hemisphere.
Perhaps Linda Panetta is a clever ploy to infiltrate the Chavez regime. Somehow I really doubt it. It looks more like the other way around.

This says a few things about CIA Director-designate Leon Panetta. While a parent can't necessarily be blamed for his wayward children, we think senators should ask the nominee to be the next CIA chief about his daughter's support for sworn enemies of the United States. As a congressman, Panetta was pretty soft on the communist FMLN guerrillas in El Salvador, and Daniel Ortega's Marxist Sandinista regime in Nicaragua. So father and daughter's views do coincide somewhat.
Certainly any prospective CIA intelligence analyst would be grilled pretty hard before getting a security clearance if it was known that his or her sister or daughter was an anti-US militant who aided and abetted Chavez and the Sandinistas. And even then he might not get a very high clearance. It's only fair to hold Leon Panetta to at least the same standards that apply to ordinary CIA analysts and operators.
The Senate has an obligation to nail down this problem when it considers confirming Leon Panetta to lead the CIA.

Panetta's Daughter
By Philip Klein, Jan 14, 2009
J. Michael Waller argues that Linda Panetta's ties to Daniel Ortega and Hugo Chavez deserve more scrutiny as the Senate considers the nomination of her father, Leon Panetta, to be CIA director. I'm generally not too fond of making children into an issue, and am uncomfortable with the suggestion Waller makes here: "Perhaps Linda Panetta is a clever ploy to infiltrate the Chavez regime. Somehow I really doubt it. It looks more like the other way around." With that said, Waller does make a good point about at least asking questions about the relationship:
Certainly any prospective CIA intelligence analyst would be grilled pretty hard before getting a security clearance if it was known that his or her sister or daughter was an anti-US militant who aided and abetted Chavez and the Sandinistas. And even then he might not get a very high clearance. It's only fair to hold Leon Panetta to at least the same standards that apply to ordinary CIA analysts and operators.

I'm trying to stop people from getting hustled by Ms. Panetta. As lazy as the MSM is they will run with this Leon Panetta linkage and damage FR's credibility.
It is well known by googling that Leon Panetta has only three sons.
Ms. Panetta is not technically lying by saying her father is Leon Panetta, his name is Leonard, but he goes by Leo, not Leon.
Ms. Panetta is likely allowing others to imagine she is Leon's daughter. My guess she's capitalizing on the name-only connection to promote herself and make money.
Where's that coming from? Likely from Ms. Panetta.
On further review, I see that Ms. Panetta has been saying that she was the daughter of Leon Panetta, Congessman and Politician for at least two years. She’s a fraud alright.
I looked it up on various links, bio, but here’s just one for this thread:

SNIPPET: “Leon Panetta is married to Sylvia Marie Varni, who administered his district offices during his service in Congress. They have three grown sons and one grandchild.”

I'm pretty sure the American Spectator got it from this linked article:

It's a piece written by someone named J Michael Waller. I did search on him and found this:

"Panetta's Daughter" (American Spectator article):
http://spectator.org/blog/2009/01/14/panettas-daughter
I just emailed American Spectator and others that are running with this story.
Honestly, I am seeing this more often, ezines and bloggers, cutting and pasting each other. Someone gets a juicy little story that everyone tries to scoop and lead with, hoping to make internet history.
I've had to stop a couple of Drudge stories, they are no better. I just don't want FR to turn into a punching bag for DU and all the other left-wing trash.
bttt
BTW, I let Waller know this was a bogus lead. Geez, he’s an Annenberg Professor, but missed this one by a mile.
He appears to be a lot more than that:

Weird stuff. But you would think a guy with Waller's credentials would have known the deal.
From Human Events.com, Profile: J. Michael Waller:

Check out his highly dubious assertion:
www.thetriangle.org/news/2006/10/20/News/War-Photographer.Shares.Experiences.With.U.Students-2379300.shtml
Panetta told The Triangle about her experience in Chile, where students were protesting the human rights condition that the indigenous population, the Mapuche Indians, are facing. It was a violent protest - a clash that erupted the military police and students at the University of Chile.
“Down there they use nerve gas, which is not really fun to be at the other end of,” Panetta said.
I’m guessing she doesn’t know the difference between tear gas and nerve gas.
Ortega Dead Man Walking bump and bkmark
She apparently spoke at an event at Springfield College in Mass and was described as being the daughter of Leon Panetta (the former Chief of Staff):
"ACTIVIST LINDA PANETTA SPEAKS Linda Panetta, photojournalist, social activist, and daughter of former White House Chief of Staff Leon Panetta, spoke about her work in Central America and the Middle East in a presentation entitled 'Social Justice and Contemporary Society' on Monday, Feb. 12, in Marsh Memorial Chapel."

Linda's father is Leonard (Leo) P. Panetta, mother is Jocelyne M Panetta of Medford, NJ. Linda's siblings are Michelle M Panetta, Daniel J Panetta, and Ronald J Panetta.
Leon Panetta married Sylvia Marie Varni, they live on a walnut farm in Carmel Valley, California. They have three grown sons: Christopher, Carmelo, and James.
