McCain Campaign Manager Blames Rush Limbaugh for McCain's Loss
Rush Limbaugh ^ | 2009-01-16

RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, have you thought back to the 2008 election? Have you asked yourself who was responsible for that loss? Have you asked yourself who really should shoulder the blame and the burden for the defeat of Senator McCain? A lot of people have been speculating this, a lot of postmortems on the election. Let's go to the BBC. BBC World Service, host Stephen Sackur spoke with former McCain campaign manager Rick Davis and asked Rick Davis on whose shoulders rests the burden of the McCain defeat.

DAVIS: We didn't successfully reach out to them. I mean, but you look at the leadership John McCain gave which is counter to the direction that the party was headed, when you have the Rush Limbaughs of the world who, you know, literally almost feed the nativist attitude toward immigration reform, what do you think the Hispanic voter, the Latino voter is gonna remember? They're gonna remember the attacks, not the efforts by people like John McCain to try and reform.

RUSH: So there you have it, Rick Davis, the campaign manager for McCain, has dumped on my shoulders the reason McCain lost and others like me alienated Hispanic voters. This is so wrong on so many levels, but it explains why this campaign was so inept. A brief time-out. Just wanted you to hear that so you could stew over it.

A couple of months ago, many, many people here were guilt-tripping those of us who refused to support this guy.

They weren't just guilt-tripping me; folks were calling for my head on a platter.

Everybody decided to go puritan and they decided to stay home. Don’t blame me, I voted for Romney in the primaries.

“We” didn’t nominate McCain. Democrats crossing over in open primaries in critical States did. Right now, Republicans across the US should be demanding that States return to closed primaries. Why should Democrats be able to determine who the Republican candidate is going to be?

Wait just a durn minute....I thought McCain lost because of Governor Palin. Now it’s the Rush Limbaugh’s of the world? The only reason McCain received as many votes as he did was because of Gov. Palin and Rush Limbaugh. They tried to drag him across the finish line.

“I’m not so sure a McCain administration would have been any better than the travesty that is going to begin in three more days.”

Sadly, I think we might be better off to just allow this train wreck to happen than to have a Democrat like McCain representing the GOP as president. He would have been a disaster anyway.

When you think your best chance is to "reach out" you've already lost. Better that you "lead the public to vote for your side with appeals to sound policies and American values".

That Davis guy should return his salary.

Mccain lost cause he lost his balls many years ago, no other reason.

A few other reason helped put Obama over the top.....

.....ACORN and other voter fraud schemes

.....Obama was promoted in the MSM as a Messiah.

.....Obama is a minority, which despite all the talk about it being a problem and it being a "long climb", it was a PLUS with the guilt ridden lib leaning sucker mom types.

Add all of that together and you have the perfect voter storm. I doubt even Reagan could have overcome these odds. In normal times, yes. But the WOT has sucked the brains out of a lot of people. They have no will to survive as a nation, meaning we are in trouble.

How the hell did we nominate this guy?

We who? I sure as heck had nothing to do with nominating McCain.

Exactly. Right here on FR even, we systematically beat the frap out of every front runner in hopes that Duncan Hunter, who never had a chance, or Fred Thompson, who never really wanted a chance, would emerge the victor.

An Obama win may have been inevitable. Our fighting amongst ourselves to end up with McCain only increased the margin.

I think Rush should have spent a little more time analyzing and focusing on the GOP candidates, rather than being mesmerized by Hillary Clinton, and we might actually have gotten a better candidate. I actually quit listening to him for awhile, because it was all Dems all the time. Since GOP candidates never get any decent press coverage, if Rush had given them a little more attention, we might have been able to get momentum behind a better one than McCain.

But once McCain was the GOP candidate, he lost for so many reasons that it’s certainly silly to “blame” Rush.

McCain lost because he picked a great Conservative Governor for his running mate to get the Conservatives on board but then he and/or his staff threw her under the bus.
McCain should have been ripping the MSM for the way they treated Palin but in the end he turned out no better than them.

WE did no such thing. By the time the primary vote rolled around to NY, I had to choose between mclame, Romney and Rudy.

I chose Romney. After the election, I registered with the Conservative Party. I am no longer part of the RINO establishment.

“but you look at the leadership John McCain gave which is counter to the direction that the party was headed,”

There’s the reason Republicans lost, and will continue to lose.

Do you know who's going to get the 60 votes for Harry Reid?

It will be John McCain.

If McCain = 59, then he can extract Lindsey Graham from his posterier to = 60.

Add in Specter, Collins, Snowe and a few others and they easily exceed the 60.

It was similar here in Virginia.

My choices were McQueeg, the Huckster, and Ron Paul. Guess which one I chose?!
