MSNBC interviewed one passenger who said it took 5 minutes for him to get off the plane. It was filling up with water. He had to walk out in water knee-deep in the plane.

See my #240, it’s got data from what I assume are the local radar feeds. He made it to 3400 feet over the Bronx before turning sharply left and lining up on the river while descending. It also looks like he came VERY close to hitting another aircraft flying up the Hudson by Manhattan at 1000 feet, I assume ATC got that plane out of the way very quickly.

Here is the flight track from Flight Aware:
Looks like the pilot did a great job of finding a place to land.

I’d guess that chicken wire would probably sever the geese into smaller pieces at any realistic impact velocity. It might help some, but I doubt it would really fix the problem.

Wow!
Departures from Runway 4 normally do climb out to NNE, do noise abatement as directed, then turn to west for departure pretty much over Newark airport (EWR). The “180” part is not unexpected.
The fact that they made it to 3200 feet tell me (duh) they hit a flock of high-flying geese (not runway geese) —OR— they damaged engines did not give up the ghost right away.
No matter what, kudos to the crew. AND the New Yorkers.

I was watching at home and FNC was on and had it for 3 minutes before CNN or MSNBC. I flipped over and neither of them were reporting. I don’t like Shep but he reported it first!
