Breaking now of Fox News.
Thankfully, everyone in the plane appear to have survived but I wonder how many bodies they’ll pull up when they dig the plane out of the riverbed...
MSNBC reporting 20 degrees actual air temp, with 15 mph wind gusts.
Yeah, but if you let it sink, the current will push it god knows where.
First responders were clearly regular New York citizens...Not professional first responders.
Good for them!
The pilot is indeed a hero but the airplane will need a bail out.
Had this happened decades ago when the Hudson was super polluted the plane probably could have done a wheels down landing and taxied to the shoreline.
Jimmy Hoffa???
;-)
Here’s a chart, it’s not that deep, look at the chart in big screen mode.

one of the passengers being interviewed said just that, their were ferry boats there and that they were off the plane quickly, dang fine job by the pilot and crew..
they were in the air for about 3 minutes per FAA,, the pilot had reported a 2 bird strike.
Thank God.
Report from first divers: no one left on the plane. FoxNews reports second set of divers will explore plane shortly.
Looks like it.
Any turn to the right would put them over the Bronx or Westchester County.
U-Turn (to right) would put them over water, but Throgg’s Neck and Tri-boro bridges and various islands AND the likelihood of never completing a U-turn [stall/impact] say no.
Sounds like he made a lazy left turn, and OBVIOUSLY followed best procedures for water landing.
The East River is (duh) on the east side of Manhattan between LGA and NYC, but too many bridges, sharper approach, etc.
The pilot was a skilled driver/passenger on a plane that was GOING TO LAND. HE/SHE did all the right things it would seem.
GUESSING: the plane did not lose power immediately, but as the engines destroyed themselves/ caught fire/ lost thrust, he had to deal with zero thrust. The rest is now good history. The plane went a long way, actually.
Other than the geese? Probably no bodies, they had plenty of time to get everyone out.

Why doesnt Obama just lift it out of the river with one flick of his silver tongue. After all he’s supposed to walk on water.
Thank you God for the miracle of survival of this US Airways flight. Thank you for their safety. Thank you for the wisdom and ability of the pilots and crew. Thank you for always reminding us that You are with us. I pray that those on this flight recognize Your hand in this event.
Amen.
>>once again, I have to repeat, Shep Smith shouldn’t report on anything except Bingo results. I fully expect to watch him do a meltdown someday.
Anyone who watched his Katrina coverage, has.
LaGuardia airport is directly across the river from my apartment.
Thankfully the plane went down by the NYWaterways Ferry docks. At this time of day the ferries are quite full but they were right there in moments.
Prayers for the safety of all.
The pilot intentionally put the plane down in the river.
Here’s something even more spectacular. Go here:

Set the time to 15:25 and watch. USA1549 takes off from runway 4 at LGA just before 1526 and makes it to about 3400 feet over the Bronx before starting a descent. The pilot made a sharp 180, lined it up on the river, dodged a general aviation aircraft coming up the river at 1000 feet in the opposite direction, and then apparently ditched it southbound down the river. Phenomenal, and very quick thinking. From takeoff to ditch was maybe four minutes.
