When a litter of sickly kittens was born in his backyard last fall, Ben Hoffman and his wife nursed them back to health before putting two of them up for adoption. A man answering his newspaper ad for free kittens jumped at the chance to adopt the 8-week-old sisters. He even went so far as to crawl under a piece of furniture to try to get to their brother, but the Hoffmans told him they were keeping the pet for themselves.

I think the guy is beyond deranged, and I do like animals, but I have to ask why this guy gets five years in jail and we can’t put a rapist away for good?
A guy in Wayne County, IL killed a donkey in 2007, the other day he was sentenced to 7 years.....
Well I definitely agree we should put away Rapists for good, even capital punishment in some cases.
However I think 5 years is a just penalty for his crimes. If for nothing else that killing animals is usually a sign of things to come. $10 this guy is a murderer within 20 years.

These guys invariably graduate from torturing innocent animals to killing humans, with or without torture. It is a sign of someone who places no value on the life of other living things.

OTOH, that "nasty, outdated, cruel, and judgemental" book, The Bible, has a few things to say about mandatory sentences for such things as rape and murder. Too bad Society ignores them; otherwise, people might see, and these things cease from among them.
And, no; Jesus didn't set that aside, as forgiveness in the spirit has nothing to do with not judicially punishing the flesh.

He got 5 years for killing some animals? Why? Because they’re cute and fluffy wuffy? How many animals have died because most people here (including me) have enjoyed eating tasty burgers and succulent pork chops? Is there such a big moral difference in killing a kitten because it makes you feel better about the fact that you are a pathetic loser, and killing a less cute animal because you love the taste of cooked animal flesh, or at least one that justifies a 5 year prison sentence?
I’m not a member of PETA or even a vegetarian, I’m just wondering why people who have no qualms about eating meat get so wound up about this sort of thing...
