Obama and the Second Amendment (like oil and water)
Fox ^ | 1/12/2009 | John R. Lott, Jr.

But Holder’s nomination raises other questions about what President-elect Barack Obama claimed he believed during the campaign. Numerous times he promised that he supported an individual’s right to own guns and that he wouldn’t do anything to take away people’s guns.

Just last year in a brief to the Supreme Court, Holder argued that “the Second Amendment did not protect an individual right to keep and bear arms,” that it only protected government militias’ rights to guns. He claimed that the Second Amendment posed no obstacle to implementing gun bans.

I can’t find even one gun control law that Holder has opposed. On every gun control regulation he has discussed, he has been supportive, including: bans, raising the age that someone can possess a gun, registration and licensing, one-gun-a-month limit on purchases, and mandatory waiting periods.

Even more troubling, while Holder served in the Clinton Justice Department, he oversaw the background check system, but he has never been asked to explain why the system broke down so consistently while he ran it.

The constant breakdowns of "instant" background-check systems during the Clinton administration halted gun sales for hours or even days at a time, costing stores untold sales and additional costs. Even by the end of the Clinton administration, from September 1999 to December 2000, the system was down about one hour for every 16.7 hours of operation. The breakdowns often came in big blocks of time, the worst during a period covering 60 business hours during two weeks in the middle of May 2000. During his tenure, gun shows sometimes found that they couldn’t sell guns during the entire weekend that they were open.

Get ready to “do battle” to protect the Second Amendment and what it stands for. Nothing new really, it is just going to get worse in the hands of hard socialists who are very anti-American, and anti-Constitution.

Gun dealers have to wait for days for a positive response from NICS,

but the Congress was going to make it so that illegals would have to be assumed “OK” if the system didn’t respond negatively within 24 hours.

I guarantee more folks have died from illegals that from guns bought from dealers.

I just can’t imagine any amendment or other constitutional right this clown will not go after. Socialism can’t live with an American style constitution in place.

Obama frequently mentioned "common sense regulations" a.k.a. GUN CONTROL and/or BANS. Standard liberal lip service to disarm the gullible and ignorant.

I wonder... are there as many gun owners as homosexuals? While the NRA is a powerful lobby, and guns have figured in some key elections, as far as I can tell, no one has antagonized and galvanized the entire constituency. Some of the ideas being floated—like the bullet database—might do that.

Re: “common sense regulations”

All anyone needs to do is to look to a dem state to see what the future could hold. In NJ, you need a card to purchase a BB gun! That is “common sense” to dems in NY.

Please, anyone who shoots, join the NRA!

Past two gun shows here were MOBBED! Could barely move.

Tons of McCain/Palin buttons and shirts on people too.

In the Ft. Lauderdale show, it was so packed that they had to wait for people to exit before allowing more in. The line when I left had about 400 people in it.

A few years back, 0bama declared the Constitution to be fundamentally flawed. How is he going to swear to uphold and defend it???

“Numerous times he promised that he supported an individual’s right to own guns and that he wouldn’t do anything to take away people’s guns.”

If anyone believes this, please get in touch; I have a very nice bridge in Brooklyn, New York, which I’m willing to sacrifice cheap.

The nearest gun show to me happens over 200 miles south in Salt Lake City. Unless I have a very good reason to make a 400 mile round trip, there are few "bargains" that would offset even the cost of travel. Last gun show I opted to visit my local FFL and reduce his inventory a bit. This past weekend on passed on another SLC gun show. Instead, I renewed my range membership and hunting license.

I have a feeling that sooner rather than later the quotes will be removed from “do battle”.

I quit going to gun shows years ago. Too crowded with Rambo wannabees in camo and mall ninjas looking for the latest in cheap martial arts weapons. Not to mention the sellers who seem to think their guns are made of gold judging by the asking prices. In the past 15 years the ratio of guns to crap at the average gun show has gone up in favor of the crap. Wouldn’t bother me a bit to see every modern gun show in the US just disappear. Support your local dealer so you have someplace to find ammo without having to search high and low.

You are exactly right. And I think we will find there are many, many people willing to erase the quotation marks. People are getting pissed and the real crap hasn’t even started yet.

Of course it's like oil and water to him...I mean, you can't pull a coup on a country with an armed populace.

The Kenyan's job - as defined by der Fuhurer Soros, is to start plowing the way for socialism/communism. The put a black guy in there so no guilt-riddens whites would rebut him on getting rid of that ol' pesky 2nd amendment, and other things American.

He'll do his job - as ordered - because there is not telling what soros has outlined as his "alternative".
