Mouthwash 'causes oral cancer' and should be pulled from supermarkets, say experts By Daily Mail Reporter 12th January 2009 There is now 'sufficient evidence' mouthwashes containing alcohol contribute to the increased risk of the disease, according to a review of the latest studies. The ethanol in mouthwash is thought to allow cancer-causing substances to permeate the lining of the mouth more easily and cause harm. Lead author Professor Michael McCullough said: 'We see people with oral cancer who have no other risk factors than the use of alcohol-containing mouthwash, so what we've done in this study is review all the evidence that's out there. 'Since this article came out, further evidence has come out too. We believe there should be warnings. If it was a facial cream that had the effect of reducing acne but had a four-to-five-fold increased risk of skin cancer, no one would be recommending it.' The ethanol in mouthwash is thought to allow cancer-causing substances to permeate the lining of the mouth more easily and cause harm.

That settles it - I’m going to go find a cave and live out my existence there.
Oh wait - cave air causes cancer!
Well that’s a big relief... at least it’s not contributing to “climate change”... or is it? Perhaps we need mouthwash credits. ;-)
“evidence’ mouthwashes containing alcohol contribute to the increased risk of the disease”

He’s Australian....
I can just see it now....
“But officer, I was only using mouthwash...”
This is a Brit-Muslim conspiracy. Not having bad breath discriminates against them.
I know lots of people that rinse their mouths out with ethanol based liquids on a very frequent bases. They have never used Scope in their lives. They seem to have more liver problems that oral cancer problems.
Haven't the Brits already banned tooth brushes/paste?
Maybe they're trying to rid the world of alcohol, one gargle at a time...
I love it, full strength in a little spray bottle to keep dental tools fresh and clean in bathroom, etc..
I keep some in a dropper bottle to drip on dental floss before flossing, it's fantastic, try it.
Really anything you want to make fresh, clean and germ free anyhow, anywhere.
The story is he was a civil war time medic whose leg was going to be cut off by his 'inferior superiors', he got away from them and used his families recipe for reducing infection and saved his leg.
