Am I the only one who believes he wasn’t that bad?

Given the circumstances, I thought the vast majority of the decisions he made were the right ones.
They were.
I do not understand how all these people have accepted the “bash Bush” meme.
Everybody has a breaking point, or an acid test. Bush did make many disappointing decisions, which certainly sucked. But on the whole, the incoming administration I am afraid will be a cold bucket of water for some to soak their heads in.
It started as whacko’s from the left but it has become standard operating procedure in nearly all circles to slam this man and I think history will prove this wrong.
Sheeple mentality. Be the first on your block to bash the prez, makes you cool in the eyes of those around you. Besides, everyone else is doing it, so it must be the "in" thing to do.
Is your glass half full or half empty or just plain empty? Im pretty sure its the later
"average" pols need the support of the news outlets to gain traction with the voters, something that will be perpetually denied them from the MSM.
I’ve got a bit of a rant here. Hope somebody reads it.
First, you mean to tell me those teeny, tiny mean so-called journalists couldn’t give this man a break on his very last press conference? They got to ask him what were his mistakes?
That’s just impolite. It’s the sort of question an interviewer might ask at a sit-down, hardly the stuff of a press conference.
Second, Dubya DID, for the most part, fight back. Where the hell’s he been for the past eight years?
“Some become popular for blaming Israel for everything going on in the Mideast” was one such excoriation and self-defense. He also pointed out how the baying hounds screamed after 9-11 about how we missed it. Then, as he continued, he started connecting the dots and the baying hounds screamed yet AGAIN about obeying the constitution and other criticisms.
Well he should have been saying all this right along...NOT at his very last news conference.
Although he did say that his phrase “Mission Accomplished” was improper, which it was NOT.
He was, recall, on a ship and was trying to raise the morale of the troops. Again, he accepts THEIR definition of what’s wrong and this was NOT wrong.
Finally, I think his final statement that he intended to stay out of the Kleg lights once he leaves office was a slap against Clinton. And you know what? I am quite sure that Dubya will stay out of the Kleg lights. This man is tired and ready to rest and let history be his judge.
He has way more class than the Clintons but I sure hope that Dubya has learned that there is nothing, nothing at all noble, about allowing others to beat you up day and night and not defend yourself one whit.
It doesn’t make you pretty, it doesn’t make you noble, it does nothing to advance your cause, it makes those around you turn away in disgust.
THAT was Dubya’s biggest mistake, not defending himself.
Damn. Another 9 days and you wouldn’t have gotten here in time to BASH BUSH!

my feelings too
Of course I have some disagreements—some very serious—with President Bush on a number of issues, but he excelled with the most critical element of his job description: keeping America safe.
My theory is that toward the end he was forced by the “disloyal” opposition in Congress to make a number of anti-Conservative concessions in the domestic arena in order to accomplish his defense objectives, and keep them from shutting down the Iraq war funding altogether when it mattered most for the Surge.
“Yep. If GWB hadn’t fiddle-f*****d away the last few years, we wouldn’t have an Obama presidency.”
Thank God we had Pres. Bush! He did try to cross both isles and be the Pres. of all people. Unfortunately the Demos F*** him. He has been blamed for a lot of things that were not his doing! It was not because of Bush we have Obama! The libs and media were very selective on how The One was portrayed. McCain should not have been the Republican nomination and Palin was wonderful and the left tried to submarine her ever chance they got. You can thank all the uninformed people who voted for him but DON’T BLAME Bush!
They pretty well did that by themselves. Look at the approval rating of Congress vs the President's. Both sadly low, but the Pubbies had every chance of reducing the size of gubment, but chose, instead, to spend like drunken sailors. Yes, the dummies have been in charge for the last two years, but what happened to the previous six. Take away the wars and the pubbies went nuts spending our money to be re-elected. That worked well, didn't it. Had they worked in a more conservative fashion, they might still be in charge of Congress. But, with the likes of McNuts leading the way, it only got worse. Conservatism has worked every time it's been tried!
God bless President Bush! He at least kept us from being attacked again after 9-11.

As for bashing Bush, well did you read all my posts on here, no i think not.
Plus he has kept us safe and has been great on the tax issue.
Immigration he has been truly awful for me .
If you think me pointing the immigration issue out is bashing him then so be it but I have my own mind and will not give him a pass over immigration but I will give him praise over the tax and keeping us safe issues.
His picks for the supreme court was good though he shocked me when he tried to get in a a woman who was I think should have not even been thought of.
Is he better than Obama, damn straight he is.
That said, he, like his father, was disasterous for the economy. This is the man who legitimized the concept of "stimulus".
When Clinton proposed spending our way to prosperity, Class of '94 congressional Republicans, rightly, shot him down. Now, even conservatives speak offhandedly about "stimulating the economy" and propose ludicrous pseudo-Keynesian "stimulus packages", designed only to make politicos appear to be doing something, so they can survive the next election as the economy tanks.
The whole world has now substituted failed Hooverism-Rooseveltism for Reaganomics. This will be Bush Jr's legacy.
Says volumes about thier core beliefs vs the direction of the windvane.
The main problem with conservatives is that they constantly give up and throw their people under the bus all of the time when they disagree, rather than try and convince them of their ideas.
Many here are just childish in their criticisms, never having had to walk in a president's shoes. Discussion and debate are one thing, smirky comments and lack of respect are another.
The left wins because they never give up, and at least publicly support their own a lot better than we do.

This is a key thing to point out at freerepublic where some of the membership think being a Republican President means you should always do things their way and execute anyone that doesn’t agree.

I think we could have done alot worse than GWB.
It is truly sad that even conservatives have bought the press image of President Bush. He hasn’t been perfect and has made a couple of big mistakes, but he has faced greater challenges than perhaps any man of our time and I’m proud to have had him as a leader.
I, like many, are so tired of reading threads concerning President Bush that turn into an anti-immigration thread.
I think you posters should start your own Bush-bashing anti-immigration thread and sit around in a circle and enjoy yourselves.
The rest of us could read it or not.
I praise Bush for keeping me and my family 100% safe and will never disparage him even though I vehemently dislike some of the stances he has taken. Yes, Ms. Miers was one of them but you don't see many posters hi-jacking threads about the Miers choice.
Face it, the immigration issue was one that had no easy answers but didn't keep arm chair QBs from slamming Bush whatever stance he might have taken.
Kind of like with the moonbats. Bush remained in a lose-lose situation.
