Barack Obama, who takes over as U.S. president from George W. Bush on January 20, broke his silence about the violence in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, calling the loss of civilian lives in Gaza and in Israel a "source of deep concern for me."
Obama added he would adhere to his principle that only Bush should be the voice of U.S. foreign policy at this time but he would have plenty to say after his inauguration in two weeks.
Nonetheless, Obama said that he is "not backing at all from what I've said during the campaign we're going to engage effectively and consistently in the peace process."
"We've got plenty to say about Gaza, and on January 20, you'll hear directly from me," he added.
Meanwhile, the United States on Tuesday signaled some flexibility over Israel's offensive on the Gaza Strip, saying it would like to see "an immediate ceasefire" but emphasizing any such agreement must be durable, sustainable and indefinite.
U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack also said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's trip to the United Nations on Tuesday was designed to show that the United States was open a variety of ways to achieve a cease-fire. "We would like an immediate cease-fire, absolutely," McCormack told reporters, speaking after Israeli tank shells killed at least 40 Palestinians at a United Nations school where civilians had taken shelter. "An immediate cease-fire that is durable, sustainable and not time-limited."

Actions speak louder than words.
He is somebody's patsy.
That's a completely meaningless, totally useless, demeaningly proper and politically correct response for someone who wants to take a milquestoast, pansy, totally capitulating, irresponsible and wishy-washy position. I'm sure that got the terrorists shanking in their boots...lol
It takes no spine, no backbone, no courage to make an insulting and completely worthless comment like that.
What isn't a source of deep concern??? Unbelievable.
Call me as many names as YOU like.
I take that as a compliment.
I have nothing in common with idiots like YOU.
You're simple minded mentality is what is getting this country in trouble. You're the type that likes to keep their head in the sand and when the worst happens, try to “make the best of it”. I'm not of that mentality. I'm a fighter and willing to call a spade a spade. So you go ahead, vilify me to your little hearts content and I take that as a major compliment.
it’s not empty...there is a cunning demon in there...maybe Obama can be exorcised!
Gross.
ACCURATE, but gross...

His mouth moves, but he says nothing...........
He can say nothing better than anyone else (Rush Limbaugh)
As much as I think it’s a third grade comment, to say that civilian casualties are to be avoided, it bothers me even worse when the folks who should get it don’t. I don’t expect Obama to have a clue. I do expect the current president and his secretary of state to understand what is going on. And it’s makes my blood boil to see them jump on board the cease-fire express.
Obama, you’re clueless. Bush, Condi, you folks are embarrassing yourselves.
Where were the calls for a cease-fire when Israel was taking ceaseless inbound missile attacks for years, the great majority of the time without any retaliation whatsoever?
The Palestinians don’t have a standing army. Every single person killed by Israel is thus a civilian. They may be terrorists, but they are civilians. They launch their missiles from neighborhoods and schools. They store their weapons in Mosques and hospitals.
The U.N. is famous for flapping it’s gums ad nausium when Israel retaliates. It’s is also famous for remaining quiet what the Palestinians kill Israelis without cause.
I have thought for some time that the U.N. should be booted from our shores, and if our elected officials want to support it’s complicity with the terrorists, then they should pack up and follow along like the lap dogs they are.
Jumping in and demanding a ceasefire before Israel can weed out the terrorists, is the sure fire way to make sure more Jews die. And isn’t that what we scold Hitler for? If it was wrong for him to kill Jews, then isn’t it wrong for us to support policies that will see more Jews die?
There are times when I cannot believe what the leaders from my supposed side are willing to buy into, or support. It’s damed demoralizing.
Israel, take all the time you need. Liquidation (of terrorists) is your friend. A high body count is to be expected. Go in hard. Kick ass and put an end to the terrorists.
Then live in peace, or do it again.
Easy there, I was corroborating what you wrote. OBAMA should support the president (please re-read- I did not say support the president-elect).
So in conclusion. Obama = dink
Obama = no class
Obama should shut up and support Bush until he is elected.
Okay!
I misread you.
No problem.
Well said!
It remains to be seen if Obama is even inaugurated. After all, he hasn’t provided documentary evidence that he meets the constitutional requirements for being president, including being a natural born citizen. Obama has no legal right to be president, or to act as president, even after he’s inaugurated, because he has not produced the evidence that he meets the constitutional requirements. Until he does so, he is not legally president. That’s the truth.
Massive civil disobedience of a *federal law* in the event Obama is illegitimately inaugurated would help bring this matter to the public’s attention.
Just think it’s not even January 20th. Israel needs to defeat Iran’s terrorist proxies in Gaza (Hamas thugs) as expeditiously as possible, prior to the hack from the Chicago Machine seizing power.
I’ve got plenty to say about Gaza: Memo to rocket-lobbing muzzies; stop launching rockets in to Israel and you will be left alone. Real simple. A six year old could understand it.
I get a sick feeling knowing this Administration is going to be like giving a 13 year old the keys to the Porsche.
