Levi Johnston quits oil field job (Libs cost him his job!)
Anchorage Daily News ^ | January 5, 2009 | WESLEY LOY

Levi Johnston, the boyfriend of Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, has quit his North Slope oil field job over questions about his eligibility to work in an electrical apprenticeship program, Johnston's father said Monday.

Johnston, 18, began working this fall in the Milne Point oil field with ASRC Energy Services Inc., a major Slope contractor.

In a Sunday newspaper column, Anchorage radio talk show host Dan Fagan questioned how Johnston could take part in ASRC's apprenticeship program without a high school diploma.

Fagan said he understood federal regulations require all members of apprenticeship programs to have a diploma. He also questioned whether the governor might have had a hand in getting Johnston into the program.

Palin adamantly denied that Monday.

Johnston's father, Keith Johnston, said the governor had nothing to do with getting Levi the Slope job. Keith Johnston said his own position as an ASRC construction engineer accounts for any help his son received in landing work.

That being said I always thought a kid whose daddy got him a job was a puss. My old man flat told me you gotta work ...go find a job, thats what men do

Literally millions of people in this country have had assistance from a parent or relative in finding a job at one time or another. The fact that you didn't doesn't give you the right to ridicule or cast judgment on those that did.

It must have really sucked being you as a young adult.........maybe it still does, I don't know.

"I'm just doing my job," he said...Fagan, who also maintains a journalistic Web site, said Monday he wasn't out to take potshots at the governor.

It seems it would've required a minimum of journalistic standards for Fagan to have made a simple phone call to the company to correct his misunderstanding that federal regs required an apprentice to have a diploma. The company says that's not true.

I'd be more inlined to believe his assertion that he's not taking potshots at Governor Palin if Fagan published another article showing his research that uncovers ALL the apprentices in Alaska who do not have high school diplomas. Waiting...

So what’s this got to do with the kid not having a high school diploma or the equiv?

Thought so.

These are Mafia techniques.

Specifically, they are lavendar mafia techniques. They don't use knuckle-breakers to ruin people's lives, they use the public airwaves.

It doesn’t matter. He doesn’t qualify according to the program rules. End of matter.

Oh stuff it. Since when did we become such panty-wearing legalists here on FR?

I evaluate the Palin family using the same criteria I would apply to any family. If any Democrat politician’s teenage daughter had gotten knocked up by a teenage high school dropout whose mother is a drug dealer, conservatives would be howling endlessly about how the girl’s parents were both too busy with their careers to bother raising their children properly. Lack of family values, destroying the fabric of society, etc, etc.

Agreed.

But like the Clinton crowd circled the wagons for him during impeachment, the Palin crowd circles the wagons for her. Doesn't matter what they did, there is some way to rationalize it and spin it to their advantage.

Palin has single handedly collapsed the few remaining support columns the conservatives had in the arena of family values.

Go to any Christian bookstore and pick any family book off the shelf. You'll find exactly what you described on the pages. Parents busy with careers open the family to all sorts of societal and cultural problems.

Now all of a sudden, conservatives are embracing these same liberal shortcomings because Sarah is the real article.

Sometimes it seems like a bad dream.

Under what constitutional authority does the fed issue a rule requiring a HSD for an apprentice program?

If they're providing money for the program, the Feds can set the rules.

If this were Al Gore’s kid, we’d be having a melt down over special preference. Since it’s Palin’s soon to be son in law, we’re having a melt down because he apparently isn’t getting special treatment.

We're not talking about some corporate sinecure given to the n'er-do-well son of a Skull and Bones buddy. Lots of jobs are gotten through networking, which includes family. This kid was training to be an oil field worker in Alaska- I doubt there's any such thing as a soft no-work job in that environment. All his dad was able to do was get him in the door. Any success, or lack thereof, will be on him.

Saul Alinksy had a lot to say about using the “rules” against your enemy. Basically - EVERYONE breaks some of the rules. Then you build it up into a huge scandel, etc.

An award? Thank you!

Still doesn't change that we are now embracing what before the convention we were doing everything to distance ourselves from.

Making your enemy abide by his own rules only works against conservatives, because only conservatives have any respect for those rules in the first place.

There is a reason for this dichotomy, and it has to do with what Sowell calls the “Conflict of Visions”.

So you agree with that?

No, no I don't. What I am saying, and have been saying for quite some time, is that we no longer have a Constitutional Republic where we are governed by the rule of law.

The Constitution has been ripped, torn apart, trampled on, shredded and will be officially burned on January 20th.

You can not have a set of "laws" while allowing two thirds, or more, of them to be ignored.
