If this were Al Gore’s kid, we’d be having a melt down over special preference. Since it’s Palin’s soon to be son in law, we’re having a melt down because he apparently isn’t getting special treatment.

You mean if it were Al Gore's kid's wife.

No we wouldn't. The vast majority of us would say, "Good heavens, that's a stretch. Yawn."

If any Democrat politician’s teenage daughter had gotten knocked up by a teenage high school dropout whose mother is a drug dealer, conservatives would be howling endlessly about how the girl’s parents were both too busy with their careers to bother raising their children properly.

That would depend on the Democrat and the family values that person had attempted to teach the child and espoused publically. Most Dems don't espouse the value system that Palin has.

But not matter how hard you try to teach your kids to do right, they will mess up at times. This time, for this kid, it happened to be a biggie that couldn't be hidden from the public.

I’d have had a lot more respect for Sarah if she’d announced upfront that this was a private family matter, and then refused to discuss it in any public setting.

She tried to do that. However, once it became public, she was likely advised to tell the story.

Instead, a fairy tale “spin” story was concocted and fed to the media.

I have no idea what 'fairy tale' story you are talking about. She was up front. The kids messed up. They were going to get married. Seems to me the 'fairy tale' is in your own head.

and the muddleheaded teens were marched onto the stage at the Republican convention

So you'd prefer what. . .that they fly them to a far away place where the media couldn't find them? Why - to continue to pound the kids about how ashamed of them you were? Is that what you would do?

Even now, more than 2 months after the election, Sarah is STILL using the media to try to spin the tale of Bristol and Levi into some sort of asset to her political image.

LOL Yep. That fairy tale is all in your head. It sure isn't coming from Sarah.

They were going to get married.

Yeah, sure. There is zero evidence that they had any interest whatsoever in getting married (and so far they haven't). Levi was/is the messed up teenage son of a drug dealer, who announced to the world on his MySpace page that he was a "f**king redneck" and didn't want children. Does this sound to you like a teenager who is interested in marrying ANYONE? And why on earth would Bristol want to marry a guy like this? And if your teenage minor daughter was saying she was "in love" with a guy like this and planning to marry him, wouldn't you be doing some intensive intervention in her life, rather than hitting the campaign trail in pursuit of a more powerful and time-consuming rung on your career ladder? The "don't let your children interfere with your career" value system is what many Democrats/feminists espouse. Sarah Palin lives it, while espousing something different.

The whole story about them being "in love" and "planning to get married" even before the pregnancy is a BS fairy tale, spun exclusively for political purposes. It's just mind-boggling that anybody actually believes it.

Are you saying that Tipper Gore is a drug dealer, and that Al Gore III got pregnant by a high school dropout?

I thought I must be the only one around here who remembers the days of threads with hundreds of replies, about the evil, materialistic, selfish working mothers. Then on Labor Day, working mothers were the heroes of the Republican party. And teenage girls who were pregnant and unmarried were heroes, too. It must be a parallel universe.

A place where young girls are impregnated by dropouts?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Well...Sarah Palin chose the government indoctrination camps and look what happened.

She did all the things recommended by the Marxist government school teachers and defenders:

1) involved in PTA
2) president of PTA
3) Ran for school board hoping to change to government indoctrination camps.

Look at her involvement in the Marxist government schools? All that and her daughter is single mom at 18.

Ive been an electrician in the IBEW for over 30 years. If you dont have a diploma or GED you don’t get into apprenticeship...period

Well good for you! But you don't work for ASRC Energy Services Inc. and have absolutely no knowledge of their personal hiring practices do you? I'd ask you what your point is but its totally irrelevant to this Alaskan company.

And having worked in HR for a tier 1 stamping plant with the UAW, I can tell you for a fact that while a diploma or GED was a requirement to get into our apprenticeship, it didn't mean squat if you had a connection to one of the shop stewards or committeemen.........

When I first got into the trade (70s) I got bumped 5 or 6 time because somebody’s daddy worked out of our hall and his kid needed a job, even though I had more experience.

You worked for a Union, not an employer..........but that was your choice.

The constitution was brought into this way on up the thread when someone start making snide remarks about rules are rules and insinuating they were only to be followed if you had to. I asked if they believed in the constitution because it basically is a set of rules and this person was a 2nd amendment gunowner. I said following rules only when you want is how they will take his guns.

You can cover for the mistakes made by this father and son all you want but it still comes down to he wasnt abiding by the rules set forth for the apprenticeship program and was called on.

This is very lame reason to get worked up. We expose liberals to not following the rules al the time. You either believe in doing right or you dont.

No, I'm saying that Al Gore III is a known pot-head (as was his father, so there is a parental linkage there), and was arrested several years ago in California for excessive speeding, with drugs (marijuana, Valium, Vicadin, Xanax, and Adderall, but not oxycontin) found in his car.

No the new hero on Labor Day was a working mother with a pregnant daughter and the daughter was going to marry a high school drop out.

Through my years here, I've seen many contortions happen. The rationalization of Governor Palin was just one of the latest.

It has been stated that they are.

(and so far they haven't).

Correct, they haven't.

Levi was/is the messed up teenage son of a drug dealer, who announced to the world on his MySpace page that he was a "f**king redneck" and didn't want children.

I know about the mother's drug issues. (I assume you had the same things to say about Rush with his drug issues. . .right? I suspect I'll hear nothing but crickets on that one.) As to the MySpace thing, that is news to me. Evidence?

It has been stated that they are.

The statements seem to have been initiated by Sarah, with Bristol and Levi at most nodding in agreement when asked if they're planning to get married. A reasonable person would assume that it's only under pressure from Sarah that these kids are even considering getting married. They sure aren't in any hurry.

Rush's drug abuse was dissappointing, but as someone who's making millions of dollars of year from legitimate employment, he's a little different than someone making a career of illegal drug dealing. If Chelsea Clinton was dating or engaged to a guy who described himself as a "f**king redneck" and whose mother was arrested on six felony counts of illegal drug dealing, we'd be hearing a very different reaction from most conservatives, including plenty of comments on how it reflects on Hillary's and Bill's values and how they raised Chelsea. I don't like the double standard.

And if you haven't heard about Levi's MySpace page before, perhaps you should do some googling. It was widely reported by virtually all major media outlets, and despite hopeful internet postings by Sarah-worshippers that "it could have been hacked", nobody associated with the McCain-Palin campaign denied the reports that it was his own posting. Then, in his campaign-arranged interview with AP, Levi claimed the page was "a joke", pretty much closing down the speculation that it wasn't his own writing. As reported in the New York Post (identical to reports in countless other media outlets):

On his MySpace page, Johnston boasts, "I'm a f - - -in' redneck" who likes to snowboard and ride dirt bikes. "But I live to play hockey. I like to go camping and hang out with the boys, do some fishing, shoot some s- - - and just f - - -in' chillin' I guess." "Ya f - - - with me I'll kick [your] ass," he added. He also claims to be "in a relationship," but states, "I don't want kids."

Sure, even kids who are raised by the most dedicated parents can go astray, but Sarah has obviously been pretty focused on her career for the past few years, and Todd was spending quite a bit of time out in the oil fields. When you discover that your kids have gone WAY astray, AND you've got a new disabled baby, the response of a dedicated parent (mother or father) is not to jump at an opportunity to take your career to higher and more time-consuming levels, especially in a way that invariably involves putting increased media attention on your troubled kids.

In the final analysis, though, I'm less inclined to blame Sarah for the sorry spectacle that her placement on the McCain ticket created, than to blame whoever pushed McCain into naming her, and to blame McCain for not refusing since he didn't know the first thing about her. Sarah is a hardcore minor-leaguer compared to the people responsible for her ending up on the ticket, and they shouldn't be allowed to frame her as the scapegoat for their screw-up.

The statements seem to have been initiated by Sarah, with Bristol and Levi at most nodding in agreement when asked if they're planning to get married.

So on the one hand, you complain about Bristol and Levi being on the campaign podium, and on the other, you complain that they didn't talk publically about their future plans. Interesting.

Unless you have some proof that Sarah lied about their plans, it is merely your own fantasy.

They sure aren't in any hurry.

Why would you want them to be? Seems to me this article clearly states that Levi's dad advised him to get a job and get his GED. Perhaps they are waiting for those to be accomplished.

Rush's drug abuse was dissappointing, but as someone who's making millions of dollars of year from legitimate employment, he's a little different than someone making a career of illegal drug dealing.

They both broke the law, yet you call Rush's doing so a 'disappointment' while Levi's mom's shows that she is. . .what. . .some sort of gutter rat? Talk about a double standard.

And if you haven't heard about Levi's MySpace page before, perhaps you should do some googling.

I did. I found references to it for CBS news and the Huffington Post. Since I trust neither of those news sources, can you provide a more reliable link? If not, I'll just have to take those reports with a grain of salt.

By the way, I notice that even those two reports don't mention WHEN Levi posted those things to his MySpace page. They also mention that Levi's mom indicated the kids had been planning to get married even before Bristol got pregnant. So if you trust these news sources, then you have to admit that it isn't just Sarah Palin making that statement.

Then, in his campaign-arranged interview with AP, Levi claimed the page was "a joke"

So you're calling him a liar too? Yet you believe CBS and the Huffington Post? Interesting.

they shouldn't be allowed to frame her as the scapegoat for their screw-up.

That we agree upon.

Just a question. . .do you have kids? If so, how many hours per week do you and your wife work? What do you both do for a living? I'm just trying to make sure that you apply your standards for parenting to yourself as much as you do to Todd and Sarah Palin.
