Governor Deval Patrick is pushing lawmakers to expand the state's ability to collect sales tax on products sold over the Internet, which could add millions of dollars in revenue each year and alleviate a severe budget crisis.

"Still, state officials said passage of the law would help spur Congress to approve a broader version of an Internet sales tax that could produce hundreds of millions of dollars in additional revenue.
Legislation by Congress would require all 45 states that have sales taxes to collect on those transactions. Because it would be a federal mandate, the law would dramatically increase the number of retailers required to participate, generating as much as $545 million for Massachusetts alone, according to an analysis by the University of Tennessee"
government greed, digusting
And by adding tax plus shipping will destroy the internet sales. Another wonderful socialist program. The idiocy of these people is never ending. They are hellbound on destroying the country.
but that they spend too much.
Try an across the board, 25% cut in government spending, then get back to us voters, who are paying your bills, "Gov..."
We have a winner! This is exactly what would happen and conversely would make goods and services bought in-state comparably cheaper, thereby raising revenue for the state and further robbing it's taxpayers of their hard earned money.
Our pal, and Obama’s soul mate: Deval (’Yes, we can!’), Patrick.
Liberal government solution: more taxes.

Or we could eliminate all the hack jobs and alleviate a severe budget crisis. How come no one talks about that?
I say a general Internet tax would violate the U. S. Constitution.
Art I Sec 9: “No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State.”
They’ve gotten around this by claiming that if the company you’re buying from “has a presence” in your State, it isn’t an export. That won’t fly for most Internet sales situations.
Hey I want a libtard sales tax as well. Save the planet, tax all the libtards. And for good measure, make them all turn off their heat so the rest of us can keep warm.
It’s gonna get cold, and then food is gonna be in short supply.
How disgustingly predictable. In the face of declining revenues, brought on by the economic crisis precipitated by LibTard socialism, the various governments that are constantly in our wallets determine that they simply need to find new ways to generate revenue. No thought given to substantive reductions in government spending.
And, still the sheeple follow...
Unless the business has a physical presence and employees in a state, the state is barred from making them collect sales taxes. Quill Corp. v North Dakota.
Try an across the board, 25% cut in government spending, then get back to us voters, who are paying your bills, "Gov..."Last fall I was listening to Worcester talk radio with some central-Mass politician guest-hosting. Caller asks (mad as h**l) why don't you people listen to us? We passed a referendum rolling back the "temporary" income tax increase from the 1980s, and you just ignore the voters!
.
Worse: you'll have to look up each address to see whether it is within city or county boundaries, as many addresses have city names as postal codes, but are not within actual legal city boundaries. Good luck with that.
We have a winner! This is exactly what would happen and conversely would make goods and services bought in-state comparably cheaper, thereby raising revenue for the state and further robbing it's taxpayers of their hard earned money.
I do not agree. Tax Avoidance is only a small reason I shop online. I run a small business. I have an hourly shop rate. What is my time worth when I drive around looking for an item?
Add Fuel and car costs, Aggravation, Dealing with disinterested clerks with Attitudes, and going through coughing diseased crowds.
The ease of comparison shopping online absorbs tax and shipping charges. I can always find a better deal on an item, and in a couple of days a guy in a brown truck shows up.
With most of my industrial vendors, my records of purchases are stored. I can reorder frequently-used supplies and parts with a single click, and then get back to work and forget about the purchasing drudgery.
While I deeply resent the looting and outright theft being attempted by the states, remember they have always done it at the brick-and-mortars as well, and usually calculated on higher prices.
A significant number, probably half, of all my vendors already have in-state presences, so the effect on me would be not even noticed. One of my largest vendors is in the next state, so I'd just switch to a phone order, as I do half the time with them anyway.
The point is, if I am driving around running errands, I am not getting product out. And running around on wild goose chases costs a LOT more than the Sales Tax.
