Scientists dismiss 'detox myth' Eating fruit and vegetables is the best way to feel healthy, researchers say There is no evidence that products widely promoted to help the body "detox" work, scientists warn. The charitable trust Sense About Science reviewed 15 products, from bottled water to face scrub, and found many detox claims were "meaningless". Anyone worried about the after-effects of Christmas overindulgence would get the same benefits from eating healthily and getting plenty of sleep, they said. Advertising regulators said they looked at such issues on a case-by-case basis. The investigation, done by research members of the Voice of Young Science network, was kicked off by a campaign to unpick "dodgy" science claims - where companies use phrases that sound scientific but do not actually mean anything. The minimum sellers of detox products should be able to offer is a clear understanding of what detox is and proof that their product actually works They challenged the companies behind products such as vitamins, shampoo, detox patches and a body brush on the evidence they had to support the detox claims made.

And not a word about Kinoki pads. Sheesh.
Anyone out there had a colon cleanse?
They would have been liver and gallstones, I believe.
Prune juice. ;-)
“Anyone out there had a colon cleanse?”
Those things are a PITA!
Lemons..... lemon water without added sugar everyday.
November 4th, 2008!
“Anyone out there had a colon cleanse?”
Yeah, before a colonoscopy. I was moved.
It's no different than the magnetic stuff in old Sears Robuck catalogs. Quackery is a never ending profession.
There is nothing better you can do than to eat healthy, take vitamins, and get plenty of restful sleep. Party, lather, rinse, repeat.
Sounds like we have to blast!!
Anything interesting come out?
Anything at all like the monstrous green/brown/black sculptures I saw in the pictures in that book on the shelf at the health food store?
That would have been the impacted fecal material we keep being told about.
Ever since my late teens when I read about fiber I have been fastidious in always eating fruit and/or veggies with every meal. Not that I’m some New Agey health nut or believe in all the miracle claims, mind you, I just don’t like passing a Maori warclub.
The hideous intestinal sculptures of your description sound like what I have read about in “the literature” (nasty photos, too). I can’t imagine that there are people out there who won’t eat their veggies (”an apple a day, etc.).
But if you are bound to try then here you go.
Drink a quart of prune juice and then only have apple cider for 48 hours. Everything just moves right along out.
No paying for all those special powders and potions?
No paying for that firehose up the wazoo?
Sounds almost like cheating.
I take it “hard cider” is a no-no for this procedure.
Would the bowel prep for the nearly mandatory colonoscopy qualify??
“Anyone out there had a colon cleanse?”
LORD HAVE MERCY!!
I have been having this debate with hubby for over a year now.
The guys who do colonoscopies give patients the drink to cleanse them, and no one is producing anything like what you see on those awful commercials.
Decades of built up gunk? 10! 20! even 50 pounds!
Well...it sure isn’t showing up when people are getting scoped - just pink sking and polyps.
Yes, the $40 cleansing kits are pretty much a rip-off.
The firehose method can actually be harmful if you have it done to often.
