Franken: “Continuing to count after I’m seated would be a waste of taxpayer money”

(Minneapolis, 1/5/09) Al Franken today, in a spurious and impromptu statement, decried the use of taxpayer funds to continue the recount in Minnesota indicating he’s so far ahead now after months of recount, there is no need to begin wasting money to continue.

“On election day I was almost 800 votes behind my opponent. During these months and months of handheld viewing of ballots to determine voter intent, it turns out we located enough lost, misplaced and undercounted votes for me to overtake Mr. Coleman and win the election. Yes, that recount cost the taxpayers millions, millions that could have gone to infrastructure, social programs, jobless programs, etc., but it was done for a good cause, that is, my best interests. Now Mr. Coleman threatens to contest many of these votes extending the mindless, needless use of taxpayer money in a lost cause. If this were to continue, rest assured we’d continue to locate missing votes, wherever they may be, in my favor resulting in my esteemed opponent never catching up. My first act as Senator is to call for an end to this election and recount. Any further protestations and wasting of funds will be on Mr. Coleman and the Republican Party, not me.”

Senator Harry Reid concurred, saying, “It is our sacred trust and bond with the public to ensure the tax money spent by the people of Minnesota is spent in a judicious and cautious manner as we in the Senate already do for the entire United States. Ensuring the election of a Democrat, by whatever means necessary, is a wise use of funds. We must not waste money so a Republican can catch up.”

These days the line between real events and satire is almost non-existent. I find myself seeing these kinds of headlines and then having to carefully read the article to determine if it’s for real or not. 20 years ago this would not have been necessary.

Having an ill-tempered, foul-mouth, uncouth clown in the Senate could be a lot of laughs.

.. and hey! maybe Rome got a horse and we got stuck with a jackass -- but our jackass can talk!

Isn’t it true that Gov. Gregoire of Washington received more votes than registered voters? Hey, we Republicans stand by and watch elections stolen in broad daylight and our highly corrupted media always hints at the 2000 election - which has been validated repeatedly as legitimate.

The other side fights without rules. The other side has a willing accomplice in the press. The other side actually has more money.

Our side only has ideas and ideas can be put on a shelf if we don’t stand up for them.

This Al Franken election is such a fraud, where is the media on this?

Where’s Bill O’Reilly?

How do you find a box of ballots in someone’s trunk with 100% of those ballots cast for Al Franken?

Am I the only guy who thinks this stinks?

Franken will last about a week in the Senate. He’ll be tazed by Capitol Police after he assualts Elizabeth Dole, who, being the oldest Republican woman in the Senate

Ummm, Elizabeth Dole LOST her (incredibly nasty) election big time, and finished her Senatorial career last week.

Yes, Rush just gained another 4 years of hilarious parodies.

That is, if the Fairness Doctrine doesn't get him first. And with Frankenstein in there, you can bet it will be one of the first priorities to be passed. And the Supreme Court will ignore it's unconstitutionality as usual. They have become just as worthless as the GOP.

Frankin knows there will be legal challenges. Coleman stands a good chance of winning that challenge.

And look at the WSJ Editorial - It is really unbelievable what these crooks will do for power. Satire is close to the truth. What is quoted as satire was probably said behind closed doors.

A small bit of admiration that they can carry off this scam in the full view of the public - and not for the first time! That said, I detest them all.

Tim Pawlenty’s career is over. No sitting Democrat governor would have allowed something like this.
