His controversial book Liberal Fascism has already divided his own country. Now, as American political columnist JONAH GOLDBERG's bestseller is published in Britain, he explains why he believes that - contrary to conventional wisdom - fascism and left-wing philosophy are inextricably linked ... Hallelujah! The Bush nightmare is over. The dark night of American fascism is giving way to the dawn of hope, the Age of Obama. The forces of truth will once again prevail and the crypto-Nazis will be banished to their caves. That pretty much captures a large segment of current liberal conventional wisdom

Republicans do a good job of dictating how we live as well. The smoking ban in Iowa would not have passed without Republican support.
Ah, the finger signal. This means that despite their incomprehensible “logic” they know far better than we how we can best live our lives. I call it the Pelosi maneuver.
The alluring but utterly false belief that we can regulate our way to paradise....
It is inherent in politics today. They all seem to think they know what is best.
A libertarian put it well. Today’s Democrats want to be your mommy and Republicans want to be your daddy. Libertarians don’t want the government to play either role. That is not what governments are for.
MADD and their ilk on the right, PETA and their ilk on the left. Makes me sick how we have devolved into a society that neither has the intelligence to think for itself or the guts to take back our country
Wherever they may be, Hitler and Stalin are laughing right now.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” CS Lewis

How can you be so cynical?
>>> liberal conventional wisdom <<<
Oxymoron.
Lived long.
Truly a blood-curdling picture.
“On MADD, they outlived their usefulness.”
It has morphed into a business. When the National President of an organization makes 80K, and has a COO and CEO it no longer has a reason for existence except as a professional lobbing/fund raising group. I haven’t checked into it but I suspect they try to undermine any grassroots organizations in the same area of interest, if they follow the usual pattern of this type organization.
And it is not a trivial issue. It's the first block in the foundation, upon which the other blocks are being stacked.

Not trusting well-meaning government is NOT cynical, it’s AMERICAN.
Just pinging a few of you to an article that I find interesting. Here are a few snippets:
“...The Nazis mastered the spectacle of the crowd to project an aura of unity, equality and common purpose. Submitting yourself to the movement was sold as a cleansing, redemptive, fundamentally spiritual experience.
Such spectacles were made possible by the cult of personality, the faith that a great leader would rise from among ‘us’ and bring everyone together. Well, where have we recently seen enormous rallies of ecstatic followers?
According to The New York Times, Barack Obama’s own recruiters were trained not to talk about issues, but to ‘testify’ about how they ‘came to Obama’ the way one might normally talk about coming to Jesus.
‘We are the ones we’ve been waiting for,’ Obama told mesmerised crowds. ‘Unity is the great need of the hour,’ he insisted....”
