There, Burris, whom embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich appointed to succeed President-elect Barack Obama in the Senate on Tuesday, has erected a granite mausoleum listing his many accomplishments.

Under the seal of the state of Illinois and the words "Trail Blazer," Burris, 71, has listed his many firsts in granite, including being the state's first African-American attorney general and the state's first African-American comptroller.

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

His son is named Roland, his daughter Rolanda.
The guy’s an egomaniac.

What is with Chicago? They let dead people vote and they chisle stone monuments to the living.

I can’t think of a better place than a cemetery for a Chicago Democrat to tout his qualifications for office. Going straight to the electorate is always the key to political success.

That means he can vote twice.

My mother-in law’s father was Robert, her brother was Robert, she was Roberta, her daughter was Roberta. It’s weird, but so what?

Still, the Leftwingtard anti-death penalty crowd were first out of the stall to oppose him.

He makes enemies that you and I shouldn't care to associate with. (He has some friends we wouldn't want to be around either).

The state of illinois had its chance at this and blew it. Time for Senator Burris to go to Washington. He certainly can't be any worse than his predecessor.

As someone noted in post #5, I already posted about Burris’ monument to himself two days ago. This freeper is behind the times. ;-)

Just to spite Durbin and Reid I’d support him.

Ugh what an egomaniac. I’m sure he’s in public service for the right reasons.

“...Burris was the first African-American exchange student to Hamburg University in Germany from Southern Illinois University in 1959.”

Who said he’s not qualified to be Senator?

In '02 I wasted a lot of energy talking to people; 'Please don't vote for Blagojevich, he's an asshole!' There are many other valid reasons, but an all encompassing one takes less time. Now I find myself sticking up for him, on Free Republic no less. Political irony is the worst kind.
