President Nicolas Sarkozy will travel to the Middle East next week, his office announced, as France kept up the pressure on Israel to end fighting in Gaza despite Israel's rejection of a temporary truce.
Sarkozy will meet Monday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah before dining with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Jerusalem.
Continuing his whirlwind tour, the French president to travel to Syria and Lebanon the following day, Tuesday, for further talks with regional leaders, the president's office said in a statement late Wednesday.

Ping - and a happy new year to all FReepers!
What would they do if Hezbolla was kicking Isreaels ass?
Whistle?
Just a thought. The last thing Israel wants is to go in to Gaza. Nobody wants to go in there. As bad as Haiti. I would just keep bombing 24 7.
Yep.....not a peep when Hamas was tossing rockets like rocks all week long and when the IDF hits backs it’s the Jews fault. Doom on polidiots that risk lives on ALL sides with such crap !
Merry New Year Eagle !
Another grandstanding politician...where were all of them when Hamas started bombing Israel first?
Sarkozy is unable to protect any Jews in his own country.
Sarkozy has been a disappointment ever since he was elected.
If at first you don’t succeed (Russia-Georgia cease-fire), try, try again.
France sells a lot of military tech to Arab nations and terrorists, so this is an economic trip for Sarkoma.
I suspect Egypt would object:)
One has to wonder why those tunnels to Gaza weren't closed from the Egyptian side in 2006...
photo-op alert.?.

Thanks to Sunken Civ for posting this article.
Sarkozy has always been a strong supporter of Israel. He has always condemned the rocket attacks on Israel, and has always considered Hamas to be the terrorist group it is.
He should be congratulated for personally going to Israel and meeting with the existing government in Israel, and trying to develop a working partnership for a cessation of hostilities against Israel.
So far, BHO has yet to offer any words of condemnation of the attacks on the Israeli people. One wonders what he will make of Hamas’ latest call to seek out and destroy all Zionists whever they are.
