Tis the season of empty gestures! Inaugural pastor Rick Warren rewrote his website so it no longer says gays are poison to his congregation. In fact a whole long lecture about gays was deleted.
Here's the old content, via AmericaBlog, via Dave Winer, where Warren explains why gays can't join his church:
This was from a website section called "Small Group Questions About Saddleback Church." The above is part of an answer to the question "What does the Bible say about homosexuality?" Also part of the answer, in the original, was a description of homosexuality as "an enormous sin" and a comparison of being gay to being alcoholic.
Another question encouraged people to tithe to the church even while paying off credit card debts. 10 percent! "The Bible is very clear about believers giving the first 10 percent to the Lord."
Now that Warren has become an embarrassment to the president-elect, everything, the whole stupid section, is gone. Trying to visit the page will either get you a database error or redirected here. Because Warren now realizes his gay-bashing is a manifestation of the vile sin of bigotry and intolerance.
Ha ha, just kidding, he's temporarily shunning his true beliefs to be on television in front of the whole world and gain popularity, sort of like an instrument of the devil, or maybe in this case it's God, or just Rahm Emanuel dressed as an angry, demanding, freak-fingered demon, haunting his bedroom.
Shame...because "Purpose Driven Life" is a great read
So he’s given up on that whole “speaking the truth to power” thing. Fine with me. I always thought he was a fraud anyway.
Oops... I meant Malachi 3: 8 - 12. My bad.
How can a fat goateed retard like that keep so many people spellbound with his silly traveling gypsy wagon magic show?
Same way a skinny guy who stammers can do it by just saying, "Change. Hope." over and over.
So 0bama shaved and lost weight for that picture?
Oh, you mean the other guy ... :^)
I am not a fan of Rick Warren and Saddleback Church, BUT...

It appears that the website had a re-design, and all the Questions that were in their Q&A section have been addressed now with audio files. If one listens to the audio file for the Bible and homosexuality, Warren sounds like he is telling it like it is, and not backing down on the homosexual issue.
Listen to the audio answer for Question #22.
Obama sure does seem to have a fascination with phony preachers with large congregations.
Can we cut the character assassinations here?
RIck Warren is a sinner, yes, just like me and everyone else on FR. He’s done some good and some bad. Just like all of us.
Why do we HAVE to kill every high-profile Christian that makes the news? Why such VITRIOL? Why the need to tear down?”
You condemn and judge others for their sins: God will condemn and judge you for your sins.
WTF? What kind of bs is this? An blog full of trash that finally reveals it's kidding after several paragraphs? Warren is no bigot, and this type of journalism is beneath FR.
Everyone — FReepers included — love to trash people, even when they don’t have all the info. They feel better when others are diminished.
This is especially true of high-profile Christians. Any high-profile Christian who exhibits their humanity (i.e., their sinfulness) must be destroyed.
This character assassination is pathetic and juvenile.
If my last name were Robinson, I’d ban half the commenters in this thread. Starting with those who registered in 2008.
I'm not sure just what Mr. Warren had in his mind when he knuckled under to the Gay Mafia. As for "Gay-Bashing", that's total nonsense. Gays don't want to be simply left alone any more. They are Hell Bent on forcing the rest of us to accept their "lifestyle choices" as healthy, normal, wholesome as Mom's homemade wheat bread and even more moral than us "Breeders'" silly old ways. Sorry pal, I ain't buying it! I'm about as intolerant as it comes regarding the mental disorder known as Homosexuality. I think that it's a really bad idea and you should at the very least have the decency keep it to yourself if you decide to engage in it. Bigotry has nothing to do with it.
Do consider gawker.com a credible website for truthful information?
“To single out one group of sinners and say that they ARE NOT WELCOME in the prescence of the Lord really smacks of arrogance, pride and bigotry.”
*****
“He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liarstheir place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
Rev. 21
While we all know the next Billy Graham is named Franklin.
A problem is that he sees homosexuals as a voting bloc or as a valid alternative lifestyle. Instead of looking at gays as an enemy, he should look at them as people who are in need of redemption, no different than people who gossip, lust over their neighbors or take money from the offering plate as it passes by. What good is the Gospel to them if they are prohibited from coming in and hearing it?
Rick Warren is an evangelical Christian who has brought many persons to Christ, by pointing them to the Bible and telling them to take it seriously.
He is the pastor of a large "mega" church, and the author of the popular "Purpose Driven Life." PDL tells the reader that God is #1, that you are not #1, and that you'd better take God seriously.
Warren champions both the salvation of souls through Christian evangelism, and lending a helping hand to fellow man through Christian mission.
He's getting some underserved criticism here in FR, imho.
For what sin? Taking the name of phony preachers in vain?
