Silent Night Banned

Posted on 12/23/2008 6:47:13 AM PST by BulletBobCo

My 12 year old daughter has been part of a small choir that her piano teacher has put together. They have been singing Christmas carols at different venues this last week. Yesterday, after work, I picked her up and drove her to a Macy's for her to perform. As I was watching her little group do their numbers, the piano teacher's father informed me that Macy's had asked his daughter not to perform "Silent Night". I asked him if he was kidding and he said no. He told me that last Saturday, they sang "Silent Night" at a Starbucks, and people actually got up and left. What is so wrong with singing "Silent Night"?

>> People got up and left? So what is the problem?

Courtesy to a child — to walk out in protest is inconsiderate and rude. No door should be held open for such people.

Wished someone a Merry Christmas, and they said they were offended.

They couldn’t say why, but asked me not to do it again. Haven’t stopped, because it is just part of my Christmas time greetings.

LOL

Had one person ever say that to me.

I told him that Christ loves you, anyway.

A recent poll on FOX indicates 80% of Americans identify themselves as Christians.

I was so sad when we lost Marshall Fields and it became Macys. I thought it was just me. The first time I went into Macys after the change over the whole place felt evil, nasty and decadent. Couldn't wait to get out of the place, it felt sleazy big time.

I think that "Silent Night" evokes fear in a way that almost no other carol can do. ... IMO, folks who are "offended" by it, are often the ones who are being pressed hardest by God, and they're fighting against it. "Silent Night" scares them because it is something against which they have no argument -- it embodies the Peace that passeth all understanding, and it draws them in.

Well said, and IMO, dead-on correct...

North Carolina??!! The PC state of the South! Where did NC’s electoral votes go? Who soft pedaled a Mohammedan driving over students at UNC? Who soft pedaled a Black thug murdering the Coed who was UNC prez?

Yes it can happen in NC.

1. Never assume “liberal” reactions have any relation to logic.
2. Never assume “Christians of differing sects” have anything of overriding importance in common.

If one always bears in mind the above points, it is fairly simple to comprehend the whole of humanity.

They couldn’t say why, but asked me not to do it again.

My standard answer: "Oh? Sorry, can't have that. Have a lousey Christmas then."

I love the expression on their faces.

North Carolina is still a state where every able bodied, gun owning male is a member of the state militia. It is still a state full of Southern Baptists, and they will never tolerate the removal of Christ from Christmas.

On a trip to Savannah, Georgia a few years ago we found a nice department store named “Rich's.” Was a two hour drive but tried to get there as often as possible for change of pace to local shopping. Found plenty of great things and gifts there. Macy's bought them out.

Their quality went downhill fast, almost the same way their prices went up. So now if we're in Savannah, we don't even care to go into Macy's even if driving past it.

LOL at snobby liberals picking up their cappuccino and hurrying out of Starbucks in outrage and offense that kids were singing about Jesus' birth at Christmas time.

"Don't be singing Silent Night up in here."
