My 12 year old daughter has been part of a small choir that her piano teacher has put together. They have been singing Christmas carols at different venues this last week. Yesterday, after work, I picked her up and drove her to a Macy's for her to perform. As I was watching her little group do their numbers, the piano teacher's father informed me that Macy's had asked his daughter not to perform "Silent Night". I asked him if he was kidding and he said no. He told me that last Saturday, they sang "Silent Night" at a Starbucks, and people actually got up and left. What is so wrong with singing "Silent Night"?
Acts 4:17-18 But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn these men to speak no longer to anyone in this name. [18] Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
Guys and gals, this has always been. The men spoken too in Acts above refused to be silenced. What do we do? We deny him. If we continue to bow down to this and pretend we dont know him, he wont know us when it counts.
Enough really is enough isnt it?
Just more people who are looking for things to get upset over... BTW, there's a really cool take on "Silent Night" that I just heard. If you're a fan of Progressive Rock, Chris Squire (bassist for "Yes") has a CD titled "Chris Squire's Swiss Choir" (try saying THAT fast 3 times!) has a version of "Silent Night/Night of Silence" that's just amazing.

Correction:
80% of people in this country CLAIM to be Christian. Some of those making that claim are Democrat. No real Christian could vote FOR someone advocating pre-natal Murder.
These ‘Christians’ also vote for ‘Feel Good’ Gov’t programs that ‘Take care of the poor and elderly’ because that is what we are commended to do. Yet these ‘Christians’ miss the point that INDIVIDUALS are supposed to give, of themselves, not enable organized theft to relieve themselves of that responsibility.
Granted, there probably are some who think that way ... but mostly, it's just a simple, beautiful, and affecting piece of music that places Christianity in a light that goes directly counter to what runners-away want it to be:
Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in Heavenly peace
Sleep in Heavenly peaceSilent night, Holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from Heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah
Christ, the Savior is born
Christ, the Savior is born
Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, loves pure light
Radiant beams from thy Holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth
It's an insidious little song, because it's about love and peace, not judgment.
If I had to drink Starbucks coffee, I’d get up and walk out, too. That stuff tastes like battery acid.
Our 'biggie' at Midnight Mass is Adeste Fidelis.
All our gifts are handmade this year. I purchased cookies in a jar from our Special Ed dept. (The proceeeds go to support the nees of the dept.) I made 20+ "Christmas nails" for friends and family.
The only thing we purchased was a Tom -Tom GPSr so that we could drive up to see the friends and family (Big Dopey Grin)
Have at 'em.
Coffee was probably the reason they left. Who can drink that CRAP. McDonald’s serves better coffee. Survey last year proved that.
Secular atheists--who try to "pull a fast one" try to dissuade us "religious, nut-job" Christians--often like to use the "X-mas" abbreviation. They think this takes the Christ "out" of Christmas.
Actually, "X" is the letter Chi in Greek, which is the first letter of Christ in Greek --> Χριστός
So.... X-mas is just short hand for Christmas, leaving Christ very much intact.
Thank an atheist next time for reminding how much our Greek brothers and sisters in Christ have given to us!!!
(...coming from an American of Irish / Italian heritage.)
That's good to know.
I don't think it's a coincidence that this coincides with the time when McDonald's began contracting with Tim Horton's (the Canadian donut chain) to supply their coffee.
DD is still the best ‘mild’ coffee out there....
A matter of opinion, I guess...
But I do think Silent Night is much better known than almost any other song, along with Jingle Bells and Happy Birthday. It's one of those songs kids learn (and can learn) as soon as they can talk.
And its message is as simple and beautiful as its tune -- which is why it's so "offensive," I suspect.
The composer of Silent Night, Franz Xaver Gruber, was a relative of Edmund Louis “Snitz” Gruber who wrote the Caisson Song. The Caisson Song is now the US Army Song, The Army Goes Rolling Along.
There’s 2 reasons for liberals to hate Silen Night.

Just a little example of how Christ-mas has become an opportunity for God haters to act out their envy. And the idea that "Silent Night" somehow has an aroma of Germanicness is silly!!! It's a beautiful and touching Christ-mas song.
>> Macy’s had asked his daughter not to perform “Silent Night”.
This is something Christians shoppers should know about before they walk into Macy’s.
By what definition ?
