Star Wars lightsaber banned by Woolworths for 'looking like a gun'

A Star Wars lightsaber has been banned by troubled retailer Woolworths because barmy shop bosses fear it could be mistaken for a gun.

Despite being in the midst of their bleakest and possibly last Christmas ever, bosses at the Midlands branch are restricting the sale of the £24.99 Christmas favourite to anyone under the age of 18.

Firearms experts said the company was “going over the top” by banning the toy.

Brandon Cook, who specialises in restricted sales issues with the Trading Standards Institute, said: “Some companies are going the whole hog and are banning the sale of any weapon-style products to anyone under the age of 18, even if they are clearly toys like these.”

“I think it’s a bit over the top in this instance, but it really is up to the individual companies and stores to set their own rules, they can sell what they want to who they want.”

Has the Star Wars movie been censored too? Great Britain is hopeless.

They still have Woolworths in England?! They went under in America well over a decade ago.

Having already outlawed real firearms, the ninnies of Britain have no choice but to continually look for new things to outlaw.

Wow. I thought I had entered the Twilight zone reading the title. People buy and pay good money for postcards featuring Woolworth’s stores.

I have been to Toys R Us and have seen quite a few Star Wars lightsabers. None of them looked like a gun. It is getting ridiculous out there. This reminds me of a story of a guy getting kicked off a plane because he had a Transformers t-shirt on. Can’t remember if the Transformer was on the shirt but a transformer’s gun was and it looked nothing like a real gun.

I discourage people from buying toy guns or toys that look like guns for children . Buy them real guns and teach them safe shooting and gun handling .

It is really amazing to compare the culture of my youth (’50’s and ‘60’s) to the experiences of today’s youth. Those of us born between the late 30’s and the early 50’s in America have enjoyed the easiest existence known to mankind, ever. Yet listen to us complain. Happiness occurs between the ears, I feel sorry for those who can find none.

Today they would be asking for a bailout along with White Front, Gemco, Fedco, 5 & Dime, Rexall, etc.

No wonder Islam has taken over in Britain so quickly. Little tough to defend the homeland with fish and chips.

Woolworths, Srar Wars, Lightsabers!

Sounds like this headline could have been written 30 years ago.

Their leaders are all fools.

Every last one of them.

The peasants would be wise to flee the country immediately because Mohammed is eventually going to destroy the place.

Since they are not allowed to shoot back, the anglo-Britons are defenseless and basically sheep.

My sons have Star Wars lightsabers, although not $35 ones. They don’t look a bit like guns.

Britain will have to sink into a New Dark Ages before it has a chance of re-emerging as an advanced civilization again. It's a kingdom gone mad.
