WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama has increased his employment goal with the nation's economic outlook worsening, seeking to create or save 3 million jobs in the next two years instead of the 2.5 million he proposed last month.
Obama set the more ambitious target earlier this week after meeting with top economic advisers who cautioned that the nation's unemployment rate could exceed 9 percent given the current pace of job losses, Obama transition officials said Saturday.
During the presidential campaign, Obama pledged to create or save 1 million jobs. He increased that goal to 2.5 million over two years just last month.

Germany did the same thing prior to WWII. Road building put many people back to work.......even if they didn’t want to participate.
I can just see all the entitled ones ( like we saw in Katrina) lining up to do construction work in the cold or heat. HA!

In order to create these jobs, we will need millions of illegal aliens.
Heck, he’ll be able to provide 350 million jobe if his ideals become reality. And your heating and electricity will be subsidized, and your housing will be subsidized, and the rice and beans will be subsidized, and the state will own pretty much everything except that subsidized bottle of vodka happy juice you keep in your sparsely furnished flat. You can drink it before standing for an hour to get a loaf of bread, and have some more before you stand in line an hour to buy a roll of coarse toilet paper. All proudly manufactured by “the State”. Your cost of living will be nil, and your quality of life will match it.

What Obama really wants to do is to create all 200 million jobs in his country. We’ll all work for him, and he’ll demand that we all produce according to our ability while he distributes the wealth to us according to our needs. Life will be “fair”, and we will have “economic justice”.
And tomorrow pink ponies will fly....

“create or save”??? Well, nobody can accuse Obama of not being slick. When he fails to create new jobs, he can always say: well, look all the jobs we saved, things would have been far worse if we hadn’t implemented our policies.
So, forget about actual, net job gains.
Our society has advanced over the last 70 years to the point that we do not require, armies of unskilled labor to construct highways etc....the construction industry is hi-tech with a minimum of labor required..
What is this “or save” nonsense. I work in the healthcare industry. So if he gets one piece of healthcare legislation and I still have my job at the end of 2 years, will he take credit for “saving” it?
I don’t know how it is in your neck of the woods but where I am, real taxpayers are dropping like flies as businesses go under.

Yep, and a twenty year old can go to work tomorrow morning on a new 20 mile stretch of interstate, and retire on that same 20 mile stretch of interstate, 30 years later, cause they'll be out there leaning up against them trucks damn near the entire time.
