The newly unearthed diaries of a colourful assassin for the wartime Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the CIA, reveal that American spy chiefs wanted Patton dead because he was threatening to expose allied collusion with Russians that cost American lives.
'We've got a terrible situation with this great patriot, he's out of control and we must save him from himself'.
The OSS head General did not trust Patton
The death of General Patton in December 1945, is one of the enduring mysteries of the war era. Although he had suffered serious injuries in a car crash in Manheim, he was thought to be recovering and was on the verge of flying home.
But after a decade-long investigation, military historian Robert Wilcox claims that OSS head General "Wild Bill" Donovan ordered a highly decorated marksman called Douglas Bazata to silence Patton, who gloried in the nickname "Old Blood and Guts".
His book, "Target Patton", contains interviews with Mr Bazata, who died in 1999, and extracts from his diaries, detailing how he staged the car crash by getting a troop truck to plough into Patton's Cadillac and then shot the general with a low-velocity projectile, which broke his neck while his fellow passengers escaped without a scratch.
Mr Bazata also suggested that when Patton began to recover from his injuries, US officials turned a blind eye as agents of the NKVD, the forerunner of the KGB, poisoned the general.
Mr Wilcox told The Sunday Telegraph that when he spoke to Mr Bazata: "He was struggling with himself, all these killings he had done. He confessed to me that he had caused the accident, that he was ordered to do so by Wild Bill Donovan.
"Donovan told him: 'We've got a terrible situation with

God created George Patton for one purpose. When that was over, He needed him for another mission elsewhere.
Actually, a John Hough movie made in 1978, called "Brass Target".
Not possible: FDR wouldnt allow such a thing.

He was no angel but I would tend to agree with you.
MacArthur survived FDR. He was at least as big a prick in FDR’s side as anyone. FDR needed them. I doubt he would stab them in the back. That’s the media’s job.
Why should we have fought to take Berlin? We had already signed away East Germany at Yalta.
Yes you are, only a pimp in a New Orleans whorehouse would wear pearl handled revolvers.
Patton was a problem for probably the commies in the State Dept when the war ended. I would not put this past anyone on the govt.

"Only a pimp in a cheap New Orleans whorehouse would wear pearl-handled revolvers."
---George S. Patton
I remember the line. What a wit and mouth Patton must have had.
Gee, post-WWII leftards who were sympathetic to Stalin permitted the NVKD to kill Patton after doing their best to kill him themselves.
Leftists are evil, and given the opportunity, more than willing to kill those who disagree with them (to save them from “themselves,” of course).
And this country just elected the most left-wing president in history...
Your right. I remember that movie and this sounds exactly like the plot from that movie
I wondered if I was the only one who immediately thought of Brass Target upon reading this story.
Great cast. Can’t remember if the movie itself was any good or not.
Watch the movie “Brass Target”, same plot and method to kill Patton. Is this true or a vivid imagination?
Patton really was a fascinating person and much more that the WWII character.
Both his grandfathers were Confederate officers. One a General and the other a Colonel. He probably should have been awarded the gold medal for the Pentathlon in the 1912 Olympics. Either one of his shots went through a previous hole or he completely missed the target on one shot which was highly improbably.
He killed two Mexican bandits in a gun fight including Pancho Villas’ intelligence chief. In war games before the war he consistently won every battle. He was wounded in WWI riding on the outside of his tank in order to see what was happening.
Anyone seen “Brass Target?” The plot of the staged “accident” and the low velocity projectile are right out of the movie......or the movie is right out of the suggested sequence of events.
cheers
Ah, but watch “Brass Target” !
In the movie, it goes down this way - since the location of the accident is pre-determined, a low-velocity silenced gun is built to be used to fire a pre-formed projectile made to look like a truck rivet. The asassin fires at short range in the post-accident confusion.
Of course, this just means that the story-telling “Ex-OSS” guy took his tale from a film (and/or the thriller novel it was based on).
The proximity of the truck pulling across the median crossing in front of Patton’s staff car was sheer happenstance. The injuries received in the accident were consistent with an accident of this nature, where the General was thrown forward in the “secondary collision” within the vehicle in which he was riding.
But dying of “complications” while hospitalized with his injuries, would be entirely consistent with actions by the NKVD.
Patton’s plan, had he gotten to Berlin first, would have been to utilize all the German Army as a strike force to drive right on into Moscow. In fact, he had broken across the Rhine way ahead of schedule, and had already started the drive, apparently in defiance of the Supreme Commander, when he was called back across the Rhine, to hold in line until the Russians could bring their forces up from the East.
Patton said the next time an opportunity would have presented itself, he would have smashed all his radios and plunged full speed ahead, damn the consequences. In 1944, he knew very well who the US would be fighting their next war with.
If Patton had returned to the US and appeared before Congress and the nation, he would have been nominated and elected President by acclamation, because he was going to “rip the lid off” all the undercover and subversive agents in the whole US government.
I just googled it.... I do not think i will put it on my netflix list...
Geogre Kennedy as GSP,no thank you i will stick with George C Scott..
