(Chardon) -- Two boys are being hailed as heroes for commandeering their school bus when the driver slumped over at the wheel and became unaware of where he was.
A bus that had dropped off students at the Auburn Career Center was on its way to Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin high school near Chardon. Jeff Eippert, one of the students on the bus, noticed that the bus was going nearly 60 miles an hour, and was weaving in and out of traffic. Jeff thought something was really wrong when the bus went past their school without slowing down. He went to the front of the bus, and asked the driver what was happening, but the driver was slumped over and simply said, "Where am I?"
Jeff, and classmate Mike Tutelo, sprung into action. They called their fathers on their cell phones for advice. Jeff turned off the bus's ignition, and when the bus began to swerve off the road, Jeff grabbed the steering wheel while Mike pulled the bus's emergency brake.
The kids had only minor injuries. The driver was taken to the hospital. Geauga County deputies believe he may have suffered a diabetic-related issue.
Good going !
ya but you wanna bet tomorrows headline will be:
“HERO BOYS TICKETED FOR DRIVING SCHOOL BUS WITHOUT A LICENSE”
just that in this day and age i wouldn’t put it past some over zealous cop....lol...
There was a school bus accident near where I live yesterday. The roads were icy and a car hit the school bus. I was told the bus rolled over, and several of the kids were helping all the others to get out, holding emergency doors open and stopping kids from stepping on others. There were very few injuries. I think the driver was trapped for a time and the kids needed to help each other.
That or they’ll be expelled from their school for violating the school’s zero tolerance policy on driving without a license.
Congrats to the boys for using there heads! Thanks for posting.
Nice job by these brave boys.
My husband and his cousin were in a bus crash when going to a church camp. The bus crashed off Highway 99 at Olive Avenue in Bakersfield. The bus driver saved the kids’ lives by steering the bus across an empty field after the brakes failed. He was a real hero.
Thanks for posting this, we needed it.
Yeah, Sandy can have that effect.

It’s good to see some news about someone who could see the result of doing nothing!!!!!!
Well done guys.
Expelled for bringing cells phone to school?
It's great to save a bus full of children, but what about SAVING THE PLANET???!?
“Go, Team Venture!”

In light of all the negative news these days, we need stories like these.
It reminds us we’re still us, we haven’t changed. It will be people like these kids who get up and choose to do the right thing that get our nation through this dark endless tunnel.
Great work by the boys and a hat tip to the dads, too, for guiding them through.
Clearly these boys acted like men and did not give equal opportunity to female fellow passengers nor did they request a bipartisan transgender oversite
Therforw they have to expelled or their Ritalin Prozac doses need to tripled since apparently they did not turn got their prescribed vegitative state
Sounds like a young Kramer in the making.
Great that these young guys had fathers to call for advice! Go dads!
