I just got this email. Michael is a fine man. I hope he vets out well.

I know he is a Christian but I can't say if he lives it in his public policy. I sure hope so!!!

He will be running to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's spot.

I heard there was a Senate seat for sale in Illinois.

I was hoping to hear what Mark Levin said last night “sunset all programs of the federal government, and make them prove thier worth” , and the ones that don’t pass muster are done away with with great vigor and speed!

Couldn’t be any worse than Kay! He has done a good job on the Railroad Commission, which primarily oversees the Oil and Gas Industry in Texas.

I can't see any problems with his 5 point statement.

This Texan thinks...so far, so good.

So, we are now in an eternal purgatory of constant election campaigning... 12 months a year, every year, on and on ad nauseum.

I think I might rather have to hear Britney Spears “music”.

For those wondering about this guy, check out this RedState article on Williams and do take the time to watch the video. It gets off to a bit of a slow start but hang in there until Williams gives his speech. He'll knock your socks off.

Good for Houstonites, Bad for Texas

“Mayor will seek U.S. Senate seat, lawyer says

Houston Mayor Bill White, a Democrat, appears to be on the verge of saying he will run for the U.S. Senate seat that Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison might quit to run for governor in 2010.

Houston lawyer Arthur Schechter, a former ambassador to the Bahamas and longtime Democratic counselor, said he spoke with White on Monday.

“He’s running for the Senate,” Schechter said. “He wants to be in the Senate. Texas needs that kind of representation.”

White remained mum in public Monday. His spokesman, Frank Michel, said the mayor might declare his intentions at the end of today’s meeting of the Houston City Council.”

At this point in time, I am interested in 2 things for any candidate for national office:

1) Will he help to shut down the Dems’ plans to spend us completely into oblivion (as opposed to merely “mostly into oblivion” by Bush)? and

2) What’s his stance on guns.

Back up both with at least a long list of consistent statements, or preferably with some actual votes over time.

The first shows that he understands (or not) the limits of government power and the second shows that he understands (or not) the most basic of rights of each citizen (and the limits of government power.

I"ll have no problem voting for Williams.

The mayor of Houston is about to announce as a Dem candidate. He's an egotistical jerk I've heard from people who've had up-close encounters with the guy.

I'd be fine with Williams in the Senate.

I'd be finer with Kay Granger.

Williams is running for Senate instead of Governor in Texas.

Looks like Kay Bailey wants to quit early.

Did you see this, DJ? Michael Williams is running for the Senate, not the governorship. Frankly, I think it’s a good move, given the crowded gubernatorial field (with Perry and Hutchison running). And if Hutchison leaves the Senate early to run for Governor, maybe Gov. Perry can appoint Williams and he’ll have the power of incumbency in the primary and general.
