U.S. President-elect Barack Obama will travel by train from Philadelphia to Washington before his Jan. 20 inauguration, officials said Monday.
The Sat., Jan. 17, train trip along Northeast corridor commuter tracks will also allow for a Wilmington, Del., pick-up of Vice President-elect Joe Biden. The rail journey is designed to give Americans who can't attend the inauguration a chance to glimpse Obama along the route, The Washington Post (NYSE:WPO) reported.
Emmett Beliveau, executive director of the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee, said the train's route is a recreation of the one taken by another Illinois senator, Abraham Lincoln, en route from Springfield, Ill., to his own presidential inauguration in 1861.
"These events will allow us to (let more people see Obama) while honoring the rich history and tradition of previous inaugural journeys," Beliveau told the newspaper.
There was a great movie about him and it included the scene where he got on the train knowing that he’d never return. The MSM comparing the Obamination to Lincoln makes me see red!!!!!
What do you mean by the RFK train “unfortunate events?” I am curious cause I was only four (and not good at searching on web). On someone’s train journey (NOT Lincoln’s) I remember seeing at least one Conferderate flag being held. Not sure if Rev Dr MLK Jr had a train or not.
Is that a smoke ring he’s blowing out the top of his head?
Securing the tracks from PHL to DC is going to be a nightmare.
Now that’s a good idea. Shoe throwing parties en-route..
Saintly halo or back-room-dealing smoke ring — you decide...
Well, I was thinking more along the lines of side show freak ...
I was thinking the same thing, about the impeached ex president BJ Clinton, this is where gore did not recognize the statue of Jefferson...
I don’t remember the exact details of the RFK train mishap, but it was some kind of crossing accident and one or more people killed or injured; of course this caused the train to run hours late.
Wasn’t that on a BUS though? I voted for that dimwit, but thought a bus ride kind of funny.
Just think, people will be able to view him from some of the best train track housing in the US.
The trip from New York to Washington, normally about four hours, took twice as long. Two bystanders who had jumped on the tracks in Elizabeth, New Jersey, were killed by a train passing in the other direction. The food ran out, the water ran out; finally, the liquor ran out. The thousand or so passengers stumbled off the train at Washington's Union Station shortly after 9 p.m., to the booming drums of the Navy Band.
I can understand a family drinking after losing 2 brothers/sons/fathers/husbands to assasination, but that excerpt makes it sound like a frat party... especially with a THOUSAND people on board...
Thank you.
LOL! Whut he said!
If I was on the route, I would do it, but I live in SC.
Of course, the Obama brown-shirts would come and pick me up if I did...
I would like to know how we or more importantly our country will ever survive the next 4 years...I've never observed any one, male or female that's been so in love with themselves or thought they were so ENTITLED.
I sure don't like wishing bad weather on any part of our citizenry or countryside...but on Jan. 17th....somehow I can't help thinking a good old fashioned blizzard ......
