Out of food, Zimbabweans eating cow dung

Harare, Dec 10, 2008 / 08:01 pm (CNA).- Caritas Internationalis is warning that the crisis in Zimbabwe is so grave that people facing crushing food shortages are mixing cow dung with their food.

With pressure continuing to mount on President Mugabe to relinquish his hold on power, Zimbabweans are suffering the consequences of his government’s policies.

Besides the lack of food, people are also suffering a cholera epidemic and crippling hyperinflation.

Caritas Internationalis Secretary General Lesley-Anne Knight reports that "people in Zimbabwe are dropping dead on the streets from Cholera. They’ve witnessed people mixing cow dung with what’s left of their food to make it go further. This is poverty at its most dehumanizing."

Caritas plans to ramp up its aid operations across the country with hunger likely to increase after poor harvests.

A Caritas survey in October found 70 to 90 percent of households going hungry and the remainder on the brink of starvation. At least 5.1 million people are facing starvation out of a population of 13 million people. Additionally, nearly 14,000 cases of Cholera have been reported.

Knight also commented on the political crisis, saying, "Zimbabwe’s political impasse can continue no longer. An effective government that can rectify the policies that have put the country into this position must be established.

"The international community must maintain the pressure on Zimbabwe for an end to this crisis. We must also prepare ourselves for the implosion of the country and the catastrophe that will mean in terms of human suffering across the region."

Zimbabweans have faced discrimination in South Africa and other neighboring countries and Knight warned that they "must address the xenophobia directed at Zimbabwean refugees in their own countries."

"These are very challenging conditions for aid agencies to operate, but Caritas remains committed to delivering aid to the country in its hour of need," she said.

Fly over the country once and drop seed everywhere. Corn, wheat, rye, oats.

Then pull all monetary aid from the country.

Let’s the cowpies fall where they may.

... Zimbabweans are suffering the consequences of his (Mugabe's) government’s policies.

So if we REALLY wanted to help, we'd go in and shoot President Mugabe?

Eff that, we shouldn’t give the racists anything. We (western society) tried the right way, in the past, to help them, and they bit the hand that was feeding them. Let ‘em rot now.

The last chapters of these national socialist narratives, which have played out time and again for half a century, are worse than Shakespeare’s plays for blood and bodies on the stage!

Some simple soldier, with some sense of duty towards his country and people, ought to shoot that sonofab*tch Mugabe to death.

Then mount his head on a pike and display it in the street.

Otherwise, perhaps millions will die.

I remember the video’s of them beating the dead white farmers dogs to death.

Cow dung is more than they deserve.

Cow dung, no thanks, I’d rather liberal stew. Now please, pass the salt.

“The Utah Phillips Diet”

That was MOOSE, not cows!

(For the uninitated, U. Utah Phillips [aka Bruce Phillips] had a great story he told about being a cook on a railroad work gang and serving up “Moose Turd Pie”...)

How blessed are we all to be here, in America, yet many of us do not appreciate it.

...but, 25-40 percent of our cheeeeeldrins go to bed hungry! The radio ads say so.

Poverty is rampant; the charites tell me that every week in their begging letters.

Things are so bad off that some familes can only afford one big screen TV, and have to force the kids to make do with just a 23" table model! And NO premium channels! And LAST year's X-Box games!

Daddy can only afford a single carton of cigarettes, and just two cases of beer per week; how can any civilized person exist like that? That isn't enough to fully unwind on, so no wonder the kids get yelled at & otherwise abused for minor things, like breaking their windows while sneaking out, or getting caught stealing from the neighbor's stash....

And don't even mention the car! Forced to drive a 4 or 5 year old car? In AMERICA?

No wonder they have trouble paying their mortgage, even after renting out a couple rooms to 14 illegal aliens, on their five bedroom, four bath crack house!

Also I think you probably don’t get much prime meat off of the cattle there.

Not much milk, either. OTOH, what they do get is already low-fat, so "better" for them.

All part of Mugabe's plan to improve Zimbabweans' health...at least that of the survivors.

Have to remember that these aren't prime dairy cattle, fed high production rations; otherwise, the people would be eating the cattle feed before it was processed by the cow, instead of after.

Big deal. Americans are served bullsh** on a daily basis and a large percentage eat it gladly.

It took 10 posts before the first voice of reason shone forth. You are absolutely right. We take so much for granted here. With Christmas on the horizon, this would be a good time to make a donation to Caritas to help these people in Zimbabwe. As christians, we recognize them as our brothers and sisters.

A Blessed Christmas to you and your family!

If they have cow dung doesn’t that imply that they have....cows?

Eat the cows and what do you have left? Think about that and thank God you are not in this situation! Imagine having to feed your family with nothing more than cow dung.

The thought that the last thing I ate was a big fat steak instead of a big fat cow pie.

This could start a new trend amongst the cause de jour, liberal aristocracy. Can you imagine a trendy LA restaurant charging $125.00 for a steaming bowl of Zimbabwe cow dung soup, or better yet it could really put the sh*& in Shitake.

The Hollywood elite would compete to see who could be more full of sh*&, Michael Moore could claim to be the biggest sh*&bag in Hollywood as he pound down a handful of dung burgers with bean curd mustard.

You get what you vote for!

They voted against Communism. Twice.

Jimmy Carter demanded they redo the elections until the communists got in.
