RC Helicopter Modded 45 Caliber Handgun Will Probably End In Disaster [VIDEO]
Gizmodo ^ | 11 Dec., 2008 | Gizmodo

This modded Bergen Gasser EB remote-controlled helicopter has a handgun on its nose. Yes. A handgun. And as you can see in the video, it can also be fired remotely.

On its own, the Gasser EB is a mean, noisy machine. At 54 inches long, it's equipped with a 34.5-inch (800-millimeter) blade, and a gasoline engine powerful enough to resist the drag of a hefty handgun. Which is precisely what the owner of this beast, Jim Simmons, added to it: A Springfield 1911-A .45 caliber weapon.

Simmons also added a remote-controlled firing system. And if you think that's pretty stupid because the pilot on the ground won't be able to aim, think again: He also added a gun-sight digital camera. In other words: This is a fully-armed mini-UAV, which you can actually use to fly anywhere, aim, and fire at whatever target you want.

Yeah, this is exactly how documentaries about loads of dead people start.

This thing would be an ideal accessory.

That little .45 version didn’t look to accurate did it ......:o)

We can say the same thing about the Wright Brothers first airplane. But there's nothing wrong with chasing varmints with unarmed RC helicopters. That might be a good application for mounting digital camcorder on the copter, and watch the after-action video.

I think I would change the design to use a MetalStorm barrel. No moving parts. Electrically fired. A 16 barrel array could fit in the space required for the 1911.

"It’s the future! they are already trying to put single-shot Barrett-like sniper rifles on very small UAV’s."

The Lon Horiuchis of this world would be proud. Sadly in an Obama admin, things like these are far more likely to be used domestically than on some foreign battlefield.

Anyone considering buying me a Christmas present might want to keep this in mind - only with a MAC-10 instead of a 1911.

:o)

When R/C helicopter mounted handguns are outlawed, only outlaws will have R/C helicopter mounted handguns.

In the future, you will know your death is imminent when you hear the sounds of either the helicopter video or this one:

Skynet is coming.

I would build up a rotary wing platform with this in mind.

Didn't click the video, but did they have Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries playing in the background when they were flying that little sucker?

I can’t believe I’m the first to say this on this thread:

You’ll shoot your eye out with that thing.

Only if no one is shooting back. A pellet gun could take that thing down.

Re: I can see some good anti-gang uses.

And what happens when gangs get use of them?

Guns should always be fired when held. Period. I am an NRA member but remote-controlled firing of guns is silly and dangerous.

Probably looses a little air speed. One of my co-workers was a Huey gunner during Vietnam, and he told me that they fitted a Vulcan cannon to an airship, but they lost so much airspeed when they fired it that it was hard to keep in the air, so the 86’d it.

This is cool. I wonder if I could do something similar with a Carbon-15? Remove the stock, use either a 16” pencil barrel or a carbon-fiber wrapped barrel. Hhmmm...

Getting past the "gosh-geewhiz" factor, I see at least two isses which should be addressed before a serious consideration:

1. Engine/rotor noise reduction, or

2. Installing a lomger-range weapon.

As it stands, it's a neat little tech demo; however, a bad guy would hear the bugger (assuming normal background noise levels) way before it would get within effective range, thus allowing a chance for evasion.

Now, imagine a DASH-sized helo using the same target acquistion/lock tech equpped with a Barrett rifle or a Hellfire...
