A source said today that Gov. Rod Blagojevich was taken into federal custody at his North Side home this morning. The U.S. attorney's office would not confirm the information, and a spokesman for the governor did not immediately return a phone call for comment.

[may be valuable to Fitzgerald in getting information out of Blago.]

I saw her name but forgot it already. In my first post I cited that “the court document mentions the first lady, though not by name, 19 times in six graphic sections”.

I assume that by questioning her, Fitzgerald will know what questions to pursue with Blago. I haven't had time to read any of this thread other than posts to me so far.

info overload

That's been everyone's problem today. I'm getting pooped. I think I'll call it a night and see what develops if anything. It may be awhile though before we hear a lot more.

Good question, huh? Might depend upon how much Blago has to reveal - or conceal.

A lovely thought....

Jarrett headed toward top White House spot
By

WASHINGTON — Barack Obama’s transition co-chair Valerie Jarrett is headed toward a senior position in the White House, I’ve learned, rather than a Cabinet post. Meanwhile, Jarrett Wednesday shut down speculation about replacing Obama in the Senate when she said she’s not interested in the seat.

Jarrett holds a unique position in that she is a personal friend as well as adviser to the president-elect and wife Michelle.

She’s more valuable to Obama in the White House than in his Cabinet.

At the White House, Jarrett is expected to serve in a similar role as in the campaign, as an Obama counselor and confidante.

Jarrett sent out the word that Gov. Blagojevich, who will appoint Obama’s replacement, should not put her on his list.

Rezko loses bid for another trial
Chicago Tribune (IL) - Thursday, November 13, 2008
A federal judge denied a new trial Wednesday for convicted political fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko, ruling that testimony and undercover recordings heard at trial supported the jury’s verdict in June.

Politics aside at White House - Traditional meeting goes over with smiles
Chicago Tribune (IL) - Tuesday, November 11, 2008
Author: Christi Parsons and Mike Dorning, Washington Bureau ; Tribune correspondent Mark Silva contributed to this report.

They arrived early, greeted their hosts genially and took a polite tour of their soon-to-be home.

If only the hand-off of the U.S. presidency were as simple as Barack and Michelle Obama’s visit to the White House on Monday.

Behind the scenes, aides to the president-elect and President George W. Bush were tackling the mammoth task of changeover, including the daunting job of turning over the national security apparatus.

The time-honored political ritual took place as Obama’s transition team moved forward with the selection of its top economic officials, and as speculation heightened in Illinois over who will take the place of the only African-American senator when Obama is sworn in as president.

Two Democratic officials said Chicago businesswoman and Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett may lead the president-elect’s list of favorites to take his place, though neither Jarrett nor any other member of the Obama team would say whether she wants the job. Gov. Rod Blagojevich has the power to pick a replacement.

Jarrett headed to top White House spot
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Thursday, November 13, 2008
Author: Lynn Sweet, The Chicago Sun-Times

EXCERPT

She told PBS anchor Judy Woodruff, “I’m actually not interested in the Senate position. What I’ve said to President-elect Obama, you know — as you know, he’s a very dear friend. He knows me well. . . . I’m happy to serve my country at the pleasure of the president in any way he deems fit.”

Scramble is on for Obama, Emanuel seats

Scramble is on for Obama, Emanuel seats
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Monday, November 10, 2008
Author: Laura Washington, Special to The Chicago Sun-Times
When the first violinist takes the conductor’s podium, a seat opens up in the orchestra. As Barack Obama and Rahm Emanuel exit for D.C., the game of musical chairs begins.

Witness a Tuesday night tete a tete in Grant Park between my friend Rick Garcia, director of public policy for Equality Illinois, and former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris. Burris asked Garcia whom Gov. Blagojevich might appoint to replace Obama in the U.S. Senate.

Garcia turned the table and asked Burris whom he likes. “Why not me?” Burris replied.

“I asked if he was serious,” Garcia relates, “and he ticked off the reasons why it should be him.”

Burris is “putting together” a pitch for the seat.

I can think of one reason it shouldn’t be Burris. We already have an oversupply of egomaniacal blowhards in the Senate. Burris once interviewed me for a job. The session lasted one hour. He spent 55 minutes talking about himself.

U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has been furiously pitching for weeks. His fingerprints are all over the incessant speculation about his candidacy. Triple J is probably speaking Senatese in his sleep. Time to cool it, congressman.

When it comes to cool, Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett has got the ice. She has evinced zero interest in the job. Valerie, don’t let it slip away.

Lest we forget, the over-under bet is Blagojevich ‘s former communications chief, Cheryle Jackson. The governor has been tight-lipped about the candidates. Last week, he told me that he expects to make his decision by Christmas—or even sooner if “unforeseeable circumstances” arise.

Lisa Madigan not interested in Obama Senate seat: source tells Sweet.

CHICAGO-—From what I’ve been told—from someone close to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan—she is not interested in replacing President-elect Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate. Gov. Rod Blagojevich is considering Madigan and others (see prior posts) to fill Obama’s seat.

“Ryan married actress Jeri Ryan in 1991; together they have a son, Alex Ryan. They divorced in 1999 in California, and the records of the divorce were sealed at their mutual request. Five years later, when Ryan’s Senate campaign began, the Chicago Tribune newspaper and WLS-TV, the local ABC affiliate, sought to have the records released.

(snip)

Subsequent to his withdrawal from the U.S. Senate race in Illinois, Jack Ryan has characterized what happened to him as a “new low for politics in America”. According to Ryan, it was unprecedented in American politics for a newspaper to sue for access to sealed custody documents.”

I remember this well, when the Powers that Be were clearing the way for Obama’s Senate run. I wondered who knew what was in Ryan’s sealed records, how they found out.

Wasn't it that Alex Ryan had suggested, wife Jeri put out for campaign $. At the time she was a big on TV. Re: Star Trek?

If Barack Obama (pictured, right) wins the presidency, he may have the most powerful woman in the pop-culture universe to thank. No, not Oprah; Seven-of-Nine of the Borg collective. On the heels of Obama's victory in the Iowa caucuses last week (and before his second-place finish in the New Hampshire primary last night), the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute reminds us that Obama owes his current high profile in part to Star Trek: Voyager's Jeri Ryan (left). Without her (and her apparent violation of Star Trek's Prime Directive, the law against meddling in the internal affairs of other civilizations), he might still be a little-known state senator toiling away in Springfield, Illinois. In 2004, Jack Ryan, the actress' ex-husband, was the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Illinois. Then his divorce records became public, including allegations by Jeri that he'd pressured her to have public sex in swingers clubs in various cities. Ryan denied the allegations but dropped out of the race a few days later. The Republicans recruited former MSNBC host Alan Keyes to run in Ryan's place. Obama defeated him in a landslide, earning himself a U.S. Senate seat and a prominent public platform from which to launch his presidential campaign. Which just goes to show: the Borg remain all-powerful. Resistance is futile.

No, I don’t remember anything about her and campaign money. The sealed records included accusations in the divorce proceedings about Ryan allegedly wanting her to perform at a sex club. It was said in the heat of a divorce, never proven to be accurate. What I was wondering was who found out this stuff was part of their divorce so that the Tribune and WLS could push to have the files opened to make the damning information public. Who would have had access to the sealed records?
