A source said today that Gov. Rod Blagojevich was taken into federal custody at his North Side home this morning. The U.S. attorney's office would not confirm the information, and a spokesman for the governor did not immediately return a phone call for comment.

Fitzgerald and the FBI showed restraint the morning when dealing with the family during the arrest. Why not believe they’d carry that through the negotiation stage? As much as Blago’s wife may be culpable, I’d believe she’d be even more valuable to Fitzgerald as a tool.

But it depends on what Blago has to offer and how valuable it is. Yet I wonder how much of this may have to do with his apparent flippant attitude over these past couple days. Could he have been planning something like this should the day arrive?

We should probably check the European press in the morning. So far, they have done more ‘vetting’ on Obama than the American media. Never thought I would write a sentence like that....lol. Hey, maybe the Guardian will have the scoop tomorrow....LOL!

Governor pushed to pick Obama ‘s replacement - Senate resignation takes effect on Sunday
Chicago Tribune (IL) - Friday, November 14, 2008
Author: Rick Pearson and John McCormick, TRIBUNE REPORTERS
President-elect Barack Obama ‘s decision to step down from his U.S. Senate seat Sunday has ratcheted up the pressure on Gov. Rod Blagojevich to name a successor more quickly than planned, sources close to the governor said Thursday.

No decision is expected before the U.S. Senate begins its lame-duck session on Monday, sources familiar with the governor’s deliberations said. Blagojevich has only said he would name a successor before the end of the year, and his office declined comment Thursday.

“Obviously, it will speed things up,” said one source close to Blagojevich , who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak about the selection process. “But this is about picking a U.S. senator. This will still be a very deliberative process.”

(snip)

..

Before Obama ‘s announcement, his friend and U.S. Senate colleague from Illinois, Dick Durbin, said he was seeking a meeting with Blagojevich to discuss Durbin’s list of potential successors.”I really hope that the governor will be picking someone who can serve the state rather than [be] the caretaker or someone who is, you know, trying to put some last line on their resume,” said Durbin, a Democrat and the state’s senior senator. “I don’t want to see that happen. I’d like to see him pick someone who can really help me and help our state.”

Though he didn’t name names, Durbin’s warning appeared directed at lobbying efforts for the job by retiring Illinois Senate President Emil Jones, Blagojevich ‘s closest ally in the legislature, as well as another close friend of the governor, U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Chicago.

“I still remember when he announced that the state was taking over all the riverboat gambling in the Illinois”

wow...never heard about that where I live, but it sounds like that might have gotten him a few enemies in the mafia too. He should not have bonded out today...he might not make it through the night......lol. What a moron!

[I’ve been thinking about Blago’s wife since I last posted. It’s possible she could become a bargaining chip ]

Snicker, if he hasn’t been ‘nice’ to her she may start blabbing to stay out of jail herself.

Yep... Turbin Durbin is sweating bullets now. Remember today he told the media that it had been ‘12 days’ since Blago had returned his calls and that he was a ‘hard man to discuss issues with’ or some such nonsense...lol. Looks like the O team forgot to inform Durbin of what was coming down!

Be back in a bit. Got to go cook supper.

A wife can't testify against her husband & vice versa. Any quid pro quo will be based on evidence Fitzgerald already has or is able to obtain against her independently, or on Blago's ability to provide indictable information on others.

Nothing to apologize for. It's not something one usually dwells on (unless one needs to I suppose).

I just think Blago's wife (I keep using that term because I don't know her given name) may be valuable to Fitzgerald in getting information out of Blago. She certainly seems culpable in all this.

Durbin on the senate candidate scene, (spin/deflection) 11/11 ...

(no link)

Family beats out politics in Durbin ‘s book - Senator reflects on pre-election death of his daughter
Chicago Tribune (IL) - Wednesday, November 12, 2008
Author: Ray Long, TRIBUNE REPORTER

Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said Tuesday that his daughter’s sudden death the weekend before the election served as a reminder that family is more important than politics.

(snip)

Durbin refused to say who he’d like to see get Obama ‘s Senate seat, but he said he’ll talk to Gov. Rod Blagojevich , who will make the pick.

“Sen. Obama , though from Chicago, made a point of heading Downstate for town meetings as soon as he was elected,” Durbin said. “And I want a colleague in the Senate who understands that there are 102 counties in this state and that all of them need help.”

With Obama busy lining up Cabinet choices, Durbin said he planned to offer his thoughts this week to the president-elect.

“If just the people who have contacted me want to serve in the Cabinet are any indication, he’s going to have a lot to choose from,” he said.

(snip)

A caller to Mancow (WLS-AM) this morning mentioned a book that i am still trying to find the title to. It outlines all of Big Dick and Little Dick Daley’s shenanigans over the years.
