The Meaning of Mumbai (Thomas Sowell)
Jewish World Review ^ | December 9, 2008 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 12/08/2008 8:25:23 PM PST by jazusamo

Will the horrors unleashed by Islamic terrorists in Mumbai cause any second thoughts by those who are so anxious to start weakening the American security systems currently in place, including government interceptions of international phone calls and the holding of terrorists at Guantanamo?

Maybe. But never underestimate partisan blindness in Washington or in the mainstream media where, if the Bush administration did it, then it must be wrong.

Contrary to some of the more mawkish notions of what a government is supposed to be, its top job is the protection of the people. Nobody on 9/11 would have thought that we would see nothing comparable again in this country for seven long years.

Many people seem to have forgotten how, in the wake of 9/11, every great national event — the World Series, Christmas, New Year's, the Super Bowl — was under the shadow of a fear that this was when the terrorists would strike again.

They didn't strike again here, even though they have struck in Spain, Indonesia, England and India, among other places. Does anyone imagine that this was because they didn't want to hit America again?

Seven years after a man named Osama is linked to the deaths of over 3K of our people, we elect Barack Hussein Obama as president.

Liberalism is a mental disorder.

“Obama will be tested. I mean, Al Quaeda will whack us just to get a look at him under pressure. And it’ll be big. Bigger, because Obama is an apostate, apparently, and they really hate that. So remember, you heard it here first: America will be thumped, and thumped hard. And it’ll be because of Obama.”

Dr. Sowell can make words stand up and shout! That was an inspiring ending statement.

"Mawkish." An excellent word to describe liberals. And it's shorter than "bleeding heart."

“Neither Barack Obama nor those with whom he will be surrounded in Washington show any signs of being serious about forestalling such a terrible choice by taking any action with any realistic chance of preventing a nuclear Iran.”

This is what scares the heck of me. I don’t think the people that voted for Obama have even thought that he and his minions are incapable; even thoughtless about keeping America safe.

Even though, I disagree with Bush on a lot of things like his definate lack of thought domestically for America; he only promised one thing and that is to keep America safe and he did that.

What will Obama do? We don’t know and what’s worse; have he and his minons given it thought beyond winning an election? Probably not. The inexperienced do not give much thought to anything beyond themselves.

I confess to deferring to my pocket dictionary

Mawkish: sentimental in a feeble or sickly way

I guess one who's mawkish is unlikely to be hawkish.

"The destruction of the United States will not require enough nuclear bombs to annihilate cities and towns across America. After all, the nuclear destruction of just two cities was enough to force Japan to surrender — and the Japanese had far more willingness to fight and die than most Americans have today.

That was a mouthfull! He's right as usual.

I have little doubt that if a bunch of those animals shot up a hotel in this country, our useless officials would just turn the screws on law abiding citizens. Everything these days can be solved by less liberty and higher taxes.

Just why the hell couldn’t Thomas Sowell have been the first black president instead of the clown we ended up with.

Bush understands that the American people are so corrupt it must be bought off even to support national security. There is no hope for this nation as long as the 50+% percent brain dead continue their ignorant sleep. This will continue until the Treason media is destroyed.

I spoke with a guy from India the other day. We’ve talked at the gym before, and he was always liberal, pacifist and very critical of US policy, Guantanamo Bay and the WOT. Well, NO MORE! He was furious at Muslims, wanted India to go to war RIGHT THEN against Pakistan and totally, FINALLY, understood the purpose of Gitmo. He said, “what do we do with these animals, we can’t give them trials? Now India needs it’s own version of Gitmo”.

I didn’t say “welcome to the party pal”, as much as I wanted to, but just smiled and said, “I think India and the US are about to get a little bit closer”.

I’ve always thought that given enough time, the Muslims would piss off every civilized country on earth until the backlash wiped them out forever. They are well on their way. They have just made enemies of one billion Hindu’s, some of the most pacifist people on earth. Those pacifists now want blood, and they may get it. It’s too bad they don’t all own a gun.

Seven years after a man named Osama is linked to the deaths of over 3K of our people, we elect Barack Hussein Obama as president.

Vicariously, this also says another thing about those who voted for Obama: That President Bush was right to take out Saddam Hussein, that he pinpointed the loci production and training center of terrorism, and removed it; therefore the world is safer for a non-war President to be in office.

Ergo, Thomas Sowell's warning in column. I don't think those who voted for Obama have awareness of what their own vote metaphysically said about their subconscious thoughts about Iraq; despite their rhetoric these past 8 years.

Further, they considered Afghanistan at onset to be a trifling matter, and they still think what is going on in Afghanistan is a trifling matter. They don't get "Mumbai" at all.
