Why didn't Obama mention that General Shinseki was *born* in Hawaii?
Dec 7, 2008

Posted on 12/07/2008 12:18:26 PM PST by MelSmith

In his announcement today, Obama stated that both he and General Shinseki "grew up in Hawaii". According to Wikipedia, the general was also born there: "Shinseki was born in Lihue, Kauai in the then Territory of Hawaii."

Why didn't Obama simply state instead, that both he and the General were born in Hawaii and grew up there?

Anyone? Anyone?

If someone can find a transcript of today's announcement, and post it, that would be helpful.

A bit too much Clintonian parsing of words I think.

“Conspiracy nut-ism is a bad thing.”

But not as bad as ostrich-ism.

AAAAAH, that depends on what the meaning of “born” is.

Obama’s verbal slip-ups are very telling, like when he said his Muslim faith instead of Christian faith, and when he said he campaigned in 57 states (57 states has something to do with him being a Muslim).

How could Obama know where he was born? No one can know that. All we “know” is what happens to us after we reach 4, 5 or something like that.

One this is for sure, the courts have let us down by repeatedly turning down these law suits for “standing” when the case cries out for resolution. If and when they get around to a ruling, it will cause a revolution if they try to thrown the ensconced Obama from office.

Well, this is what Obama COULD NOT say, because it would be a lie:

“We were both born in Hawaii.”

So, he had to say “we grew up in Hawaii.”

I do the same, when I say I was born in one city, but grew up in another. Rather than saying I was born and raised in such-and-such.

he also “grew up’ in indonesia, but he neglected to mention that.

“in 1967, all students studying abroad were recalled and the family moved to Indonesia.[10] There Obama attended local schools, such as Asisi, in Jakarta until he was ten years old.”

He was thinking about Mrs. Kerry. It’s hard to understand why his mind would dwell on her, but to each his own.

“grew up there” sure is different than saying “we were born and raised there”. definitely the obamameister has been taken his cues from clintoon.

For $1.00 Medvedev can born in HI.

Any one can.

“Hawaii Revised Statute 338-178 allows registration of birth in Hawaii for a child that was born outside of Hawaii to parents who, for a year preceding the child’s birth, claimed Hawaii as their place of residence,”

Well, of course it proves nothing, but it’s one more tiny straw in the wind.

If Obama was NOT born in Hawaii, he would want to avoid obvious lies, because they would be counterproductive if his birth cerficate somehow managed to get out—from Kenya, from Engand, or from Hawaii, or maybe just a hard copy that he missed when he searched his granny’s house during that emergency trip to Hawaii.

If that happened, he certainly wouldn’t just resign the presidency. He would fight it every inch of the way, and as clinton demonstrated, it would be better for him not to be a proven liar on the subject.

Sorry, but Obama not saying that Shinseki was born in Hawaii means absolutely nothing. Obama may not have not known or, if he did, there was certainly no reason to mention it.

I am as disappointed that we elected Obama as much as anybody. Please, let’s not make FR into the equivalent of DailyKos.

If Obama makes a good decision, praise him for it. For example, it looks like he’s backtracking on his campaign pledge to pull the troops out of Iraq by pointing to the subtle distinction of pulling only “combat” troops out. He is essentially saying that other troops will be there for the foreseeable future. Since most troops in Iraq haven’t actually engaged in combat for quite a while, we can count that as a victory.

If conservatives act smart, we can turn his nutroots base against Obama.

57 states has something to do with him being a Muslim

57 is the number (minus 1) of Democrat primary contests. It includes DC, Guam, U.S.V.I., Puerto Rico, etc. Obama's error was in using the word "states," not the number "57."

I also what this issue resolved and the truth. Sure is hard to anchor down the truth with all the unanswered questions still out there.

Just have to trust that our Supreme Court Justices will let the truth be shown and uphold the Constitution no matter who is President! I will accept the SC decision, whatever it is. If it happens that they deny the Donofrio case, I am hopeful they will release an opinion so we can know how they made their decision. If they vote to fully hear the case and we will know they see something to the claims and will hear more before they make their decision.

Sorry, but I don’t buy your suggestion to cheer Obama when he does well.... Politicians play to whatever crowd is before them...

I demand that Obama PROVE he is eligible under the Constitution to serve as President...

If he can’t - then he is no better than a con man or illegal alien committing fraud to secure a position he wasn’t legally entitled to hold.

We’re supposed to be a nation of LAWS...
They are supposed to apply to ALL of us, even the messiahs among us.
