The continuing efforts of a fringe group of conservatives to deny Obama his victory and to lay the basis for the claim that he is not a legitimate president is embarrassing and destructive. The fact that these efforts are being led by Alan Keyes, an unhinged demagogue on the political fringe who lost a senate election to the then unknown Obama by 42 points should be a warning in itself.
This tempest over whether Obama, the child of an American citizen, was born on American soil is tantamount to the Democrats' seditious claim that Bush "stole" the election in Florida and hence was not the legitimate president. This delusion helped to create the Democrats' Bush derangement syndrome and encouraged Democratic leaders to lie about the origins of the Iraq War, and regard it as illegitimate as Bush himself. It became "Bush's War" rather than an American War with destructive consequences for our troops and our cause.
The Birth Certificate zealots are essentially arguing that 64 million voters should be disenfranchised because of a contested technicality as to whether Obama was born on U.S. soil. (McCain narrowly escaped the problem by being born in the Panama Canal zone, which is no longer American.)
What difference does it make to the future of this country whether Obama was born on US soil? Advocates of this destructive campaign will argue that the Constitutional principle regarding the qualifications for President trumps all others. But how viable will our Constitution be if 5 Supreme Court justices should decide to void 64 million ballots?
Conservatives are supposed to respect the organic nature of human societies. Ours has been riven by profound disagreements that have been deepening over many years. We are divided not only about political facts and social values, but also about what the Constitution itself means. The crusaders on this issue choose to ignore these problems and are proposing to deny the will of 64 million voters by appealing to 5 Supreme Court Justices (since no one is delusional enough to think that the 4 liberal justices are going to take the presidency away from Obama). What kind of conservatism is this?
It is not conservatism; it is sore loserism and quite radical in its intent. Respect for election results is one of the most durable bulwarks of our unity as a nation. Conservatives need to accept the fact that we lost the election, and get over it; and get on with the important business of reviving our country's economy and defending its citizens, and -- by the way -- its Constitution.
Oh my.
ROFL...
Do you have anything to offer this discussion beyond personal attacks?
Thank you very much. I’m happy to do so extra searching.
Wrong. If he doesn’t produce a birth certificate, that is not proof that he wasn’t born in the US. So then what do you do? You have to get a court to subpoena the president-elect and issue an injunction on his certification as president. Good luck with that.
That’s an interesting take, editor. In that case, can you name someone you consider to be a real conservative? Someone I may be familiar with.
Larry Bates is the first that comes to mind, also Tom Tancredo, and Tom McClintock are among the very few in Congress.
Not one of us would have ever become concerned, if he had long ago proved he was eligible to be president. He has continued to stonewall everyone...and that says one thing he is a fraud and does not have standing to be president. Mob does not rule [who cares how many votes and many fraudulent votes he got]...law of the land rules...let’s see if the SCOTUS agrees with law of the land...constitution or mob rule.
No , it’s not over, and it won’t be over until Obama comes clean. It will go on and on and on....
Dr. Keyes earned a PhD in government affairs from Harvard University in 1979, his doctoral thesis was a dissertation on Alexander Hamilton and constitutional theory.
Funny but the safety of the republic and the constitution will come down
to two BLACK men, Keyes and Thomas whom have been
defecated on first by the left and now the SO-Called conservatives.
As far as the Illinois US senate race:
Jack Ryan dropped out of the race on June 25, 2004 four
days after the Chicago Tribune (The same one Ayers father
Thomas Ayers was on thee Board of Directors)succeeded in
persuading a California court to release previously-sealed
child custody records containing embarrassing allegations
by Ryan's ex-wife.
on August 4, 2004, the Illinois Republican State Central Committee asked Alan Keyes to replace Ryan as the
Republican candidate.
Keyes accepted four days later, less than 3 months before the general election.
With only 3 months and no money Keyes loss is a shock?
Funny, Obama and party get Ryan's Child custody records unsealed and use them to get Ryan to drop out of the race. But Mr. Obama wont release his.
Right there Horowitz outs himself.
Rather than mention the USSC cases like Berg, Leo C. Donofrio
or many other he slanders Keyes who's suit is in California.
Why?
Because Keyes has standing and his suit goes to the heart
of the matter.
AMERICA YOUR BEING HOODWINKED!
Still PIPMING for the
left eigh David?
When Ann Coulter came out for Hillary I threw all her books
in the garbage now yours are going there to DAVID.
I don't care what the so-called conservatives call Dr. Keyes
the man is a patriot, has conviction and heart and I stand
beside him.
I don’t buy the birth certificate deal but the hostile tone of this article is really something.
Not a big fan of TT. Tom McC is my congressman and my vote is the one that put him over the top :)).
But in all fairness, if it weren’t for Rush Limbaugh, many elected conservatives would be at home taking care of their businesses.
Fact: Obama has hired 3 law firms to fight the lawsuits trying see the truth written on his long form birth certificate.
You can't just say, "These are facts, so there."
You need some kind of attribution, some reference as to where the "fact" is coming from.
For example, when somebody says, Obama's Kenyan "grandmother" (who's actually not his grandmother, but one of his grandfather's other wives) says that she was there when he was born in Kenya, they need to give an exact reference.
Is this just her saying he was a "son of the village" -- which can mean just about anything? Or did she actually and literally say sometime that she was there when he was born?
So we can't just take things off the Internet and assume that they are facts without looking closely into them.
The other thing is context. To take my earlier example, if Obama's "grandmother" has a record of exaggerations and mistruths how seriously can one take her claims?
If Obama's father was Kenyan, he may well qualify as a Kenyan citizen. That doesn't mean he may not be an American citizen as well, based on his mother or American birth.
And indeed, he may not a Kenyan citizen, if he didn't opt to retain Kenyan citizenship on coming of age.
In any case, he probably doesn't qualify for a British passport, or else there would be even more former colonials in Britain than there already are.
But if Obama said that he was a British citizen -- when did he say it and where and in what context? -- that wouldn't be the whole truth about his nationality. It doesn't exclude his being a US citizen.
And if we could say just what three law firms Obama hired, it would go a long way to proving the truth of your second fact.

I keep asking for the name of the three law firms hired by Obama to fight this issue.
I’m not being contentious, I just want to factcheck it.
So far, I’ve gotten the name of one, Sandler, Reiff and Young, and that firm does not work for Obama, they are long time attorneys for the DNC.
