Fact: Obama admitted that he was a British subject and a Kenyan citizen.

Fact: Obama has hired 3 law firms to fight the lawsuits trying see the truth written on his long form birth certificate.

You can't just say, "These are facts, so there."

You need some kind of attribution, some reference as to where the "fact" is coming from.

For example, when somebody says, Obama's Kenyan "grandmother" (who's actually not his grandmother, but one of his grandfather's other wives) says that she was there when he was born in Kenya, they need to give an exact reference.

Is this just her saying he was a "son of the village" -- which can mean just about anything? Or did she actually and literally say sometime that she was there when he was born?

So we can't just take things off the Internet and assume that they are facts without looking closely into them.

The other thing is context. To take my earlier example, if Obama's "grandmother" has a record of exaggerations and mistruths how seriously can one take her claims?

If Obama's father was Kenyan, he may well qualify as a Kenyan citizen. That doesn't mean he may not be an American citizen as well, based on his mother or American birth.

And indeed, he may not a Kenyan citizen, if he didn't opt to retain Kenyan citizenship on coming of age.

In any case, he probably doesn't qualify for a British passport, or else there would be even more former colonials in Britain than there already are.

But if Obama said that he was a British citizen -- when did he say it and where and in what context? -- that wouldn't be the whole truth about his nationality. It doesn't exclude his being a US citizen.

And if we could say just what three law firms Obama hired, it would go a long way to proving the truth of your second fact.

OK, on or about the 25th of October, Obama's official campaign website posted this statement:

“When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu, Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom’s dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children. Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982.”

I take the above statement as an omission of fact, and I believe a court would too.

The other 'fact' saying Obama hiring law firms to to defend him I thought came from a reliable source, although I can't recall where. I'll bet my whole bank account that it's true. I don't know how anyone can conceivably doubt that Obama has not hired lawyers to defend him with an array of law suits heading his way.

You make excellent points and in a perfect world we really should do most of what you said in your post and document everything we say(which we often do here on FR)beyond a reasonable doubt.

However, we are in an imperfect world and in a situation where everything about this candidate from the day of his birth to where he went to college,whom he spent time with, his friends etc., to who his parents really are has been carefully hidden or astroturfed so well we can't find a dam thing out about him.

This situation is unlike any other potus ever. It is extraordinary.

So what do you suggest in a situation like this?

Is compelling a potential potus to come up with a modicum of documentation above and beyond the expected in this situation.
