What Melanie Phillips details later on in the article is what stands paying largest, gravest attention to. I think she is quite right in her analysis.

This new strategy entails targeting countries with a substantial Muslim presence for 'low-intensity warfare' comprising bombings, kidnappings, the taking of hostages, the use of women and children as human shields, beheadings and other attacks that make normal life impossible.

India has lost more than 3000 people to Muslim attacks since 2004 alone.

I fear Rice is headed to India to tell them to suck it up, increase their security, and be more understanding of "Muslim rage." We increased our security to irritating levels and bought ourselves some time; the one effective thing we did, that is, Iraq, has been undermined by domestic criticism and is now discredited by the opinion makers in the US; and we just elected a completely Islamic-friendly (if not practicing Muslim himself) president. Not good.

a horrible event happening in a faraway place.

Exactly what 9/11 was to Europeans and Asians.

If folks had been allowed to carry a personal weapon, I gotta wonder if this would have been so bad?

This could very well happen here soon; in fact, I think it’s a given. We are at war and only one side of that war is showing up to fight it, and it isn’t us. The Obamunist and his ilk have swallowed the kumbaya cocktail, and will rock back and forth, arms linked, and with weepy eyes lament: “Can we all just get along? Why don’t they like us?” All the while, their fellow citizens are being slaughtered.

It would be well to remember the words of Dean Acheson:

“No people in history have ever survived, who thought they could protect their freedom by making themselves inoffensive to their enemies.”

The Muslims have slaughtered 10’s of thousands of human beings since the attscks of 9/11. Since that has not awken the civilized world I doubt seriously that this lastest slaughter will.
The civilized world refuses to accept the fact that the mulsims have declared war on it with the intent of burning iot to the ground so that they the muslim can rule once again in a 7th century style world.
Until they (civlized world) accept the fact that this is a fight to the death then nothing is going to change.

These Muslims are like ants or other insects. To stop them you need to destroy the hive. Allah Ahkbar!

It is much, much too late for the "world" to "wake up". First of all, there is no political or military community called "the world".

Secondly, the time to design and execute a strategy to conquer and disperse our enemies was October 2001. The choice to convert Islam into something other than what it is by moral suasion and a punch in the nose, rather than an 80-100 division conquest, occupation, and reconstruction of our main enemies (Saudi Arabia and Pakistan) was a mistake.

Obama and whoever succeeds him will have to figure out how to pay for the mistake.

The Mumbai atrocity is a wake-up call for a frighteningly unprepared world

Golly!

How does one 'prepare' for things like this?

People who would ban the private ownership of firearms, especially legal concealed, carry have no answer for Mumbai. Yet, when can we expect our own Mumbai here in the US? And when it happens, I will wager that its meticulous planners will make sure it only takes place in a place that prohibits private concealed carry.

52% of American voters do not care about terror or our Nation ceasing to exist... they just voted a friend of al qaeda into the Presidency... a muzzie himself by his own Nationwide TV admittance.

"Among commentators, moreover, there has been no small amount of confusion."

In all of these attacks, no matter where they occur, there are several constants, one being the incomprehensible cluelessness of the commentator and media types. I'm no rocket surgeon, but I can help clear this up for them.

For the islamowhackjobs, there are no civilians, only targets. We need to be constant in our vigil. As long as they live in the same world as the rest of us, we can count on another Mumbai. It's not a matter of "if" but rather "when" their next attack will occur.

The "unprepared world" got back slapped for racial profiling every time anyone of mid-eastern descent was pulled over, searched at an airport, questioned, etc. etc. We know by and large what these people look like, unfortunately a lot of peaceful people look like them too.

If a lot of middle-aged white grandmothers went on a killing spree, I would have no problem if they "profiled" me in order to catch the killers. But golly gee, we don't want to step on anybody's delicate little feelings.

We ARE vulnerable. But the Left thinks such people can be appeased. They will learn the hard way that it isn't possible. The enemy, as Goldfinger told Bond, "I expect you to die." That is their operative message to the West. Mumbai was not the first nor it will be the last assault upon all that we treasure.

Here are some Democrats thoughts on how to deal with terrorism..............

"Islam does not sanction violence Extremist leaders and heads of state do. It's not the religion nor the masses. It's the leaders."

This idiot must have laid awake for days on end to come up with this.................

"We should listen to terrorism experts, psychologists, etc. and handle religion-based terrorism differently to the extent necessary if there really is a practical difference between how we have to respond to religious terrorism and other types of terrorism. But, at a political level, I don't think we should give creeps who target and kill innocent civilians because of some kind of ism the courtesy of taking their isms seriously. If a bunch of guys go out and torture a rabbi, the rabbi's wife and their house guests to death because they're Jewish, that's despicable. If they commit the same crime because the victims are communists, or capitalists, or citizens of Denmark, that's also despicable. If the creeps say they're killing in the name of Islam, Capitalism or some other belief -- well, that's a bunch of hooey. The reality is that they're killing because of glitches in their forebrains that we're too primitive to diagnose. From our primitive point of view, they're just a bunch of murderous lunatics. If they weren't murdering people in the name of Cause A, they'd probably be murdering people in the name of Cause B, or Q, or Z"

This guy speaks for most Democrats.............

"Treat terrorism as a crime to be policed and punished, not through "war' that breeds more terrorists by destroying civilian life."

All in all looks to me like most Democrats are cowards and niave fools.

When America sits back and watches other people around the world slaughter each other, we are attacked because we didn’t step in and stop it. Even when there is no way way we could have stopped it as is the case with India and Islamic terrorists. When we do step in, we are criticized for stepping in. We can’t win. Sometimes I feel like erecting a one-hundred foot wall around the country and telling the rest of the world to go screw itself.
