Barack Obama to buy rare £20,000 gold ring for his wife
Daily Mail ^ | 12/2/02 | Mail Foreign Service

Michelle Obama is to receive this £20,000 thank you from her husband for her support during the election.

The Harmony ring is made of rhodium - the world's most expensive metal --and encrusted with diamonds. It is being hastily made by Italian designer Giovanni Bosco in time for January's inauguration ceremony.

Only about 25 tons of rhodium are mined each year, mostly in South Africa, and as a result its price is typically around £5,000 an ounce.

Just a few hours ago it was $30,000. This ring is like Obama’s rich...gets lower and lower by the minute. $10,000 by morning?

Agreed.

A luxury item that will make headlines?

Massive disconnect with political reality.

Not surprising though. Reality is something they are not in tune with.

That's one ugly looking ring, IMHO. Must be made to go with the dress she had on at his election night speech....

Well, how simply sweet. I am sure that all those liberals out there trying to make ends meet agree with this waste of $40,000 bucks on a ring for his loud mouthed wife. /heavy sarcasm still ON!

This is absolutely wallowing in self glory. We have so many problems with money right now in America and this knee jerk is out buying $20,000 bracelets for his wife.

I really have to wonder if people that voted for him are at least secretly having second thoughts. He has promised them so much. I don’t think I would be proud to call him President if he was out spending money while I am worrying about if I even have a home.

Pimpin’ ain’t easy. You gotta show your pimp hand with some bling, yo.

I guess that makes Michelle the pimp, and Barry the ... well you know. Seems about right.

This is her reward, no doubt, for staying under cover during the election. This broad had a huge unpopularity rating.
I’ve dated a few black women in my time and they do seem to come across to many as arrogant, except when you’re alone with them.

In other news the sun will rise tomorrow and people who made a lot of money give each other expensive gifts.

But just how did B. Hussein, a community activist, state senator and 2/3 term US Senator "Make lots of money"?

For 20,000 pounds you’d think he could at least get an attractive ring for her. It’s awful

It's not supposed to be attractive, it's supposed to be ostentatious.

That it is.

If anybody thinks he’s using his own money for this, I’ve a bridge to sell you cheap. This is a piece of free “designer candy” or paid for by others. Hell, it may be bought out of “campaign funds”. Nobody knows where the hell they came from or how much there are anyway.
