Calling the 2008 elections a “repudiation of Republicans,” President Bush shouldered at least some of the blame for his party’s poor results in November.
“I’m sure some people voted for [President-elect] Barack Obama because of me,” the outgoing president said.

They will keep complaining, bashing, and hating President Bush even 4 years from now. Pick one or two from the known Bush haters on FR and observe their posts in the next 4 years. You will rarely see them going after Obama and the democrats socialist and defeatist agenda but rather blaming it on President Bush. These people represent the evil side of human nature. It is their nature to be evil and bad.
But the fact is, his agenda were rather clear even before he took office. He was open-borders even before the Presidency. But so many were so surprised at his actions!
This is really sad. W had all the right stuff for the first four years. After that he has faded completely. (Juan would have been much worse.)

Hard-core Bush hatred is passé. Certainly when the President crumples up like this it looks mean-spirited to twist the knife.
But it also looks cheap and unfair set against all the fawning over Obama. Right now, Bush-bashing screams of bias, of giving Obama advantages that were never given to Bush.
But when President Bush himself acknowledges the validity of criticism, there can't be anything wrong with being honest about his failings.

But I think Palin still has the respect of the people because she has fought back. The problem with Bush and his whipped dog stance was that, while it didn’t stop the media attacks, it caused the people to lose respect for him and thus reduced his support even more.
And the fact that he has now retreated into silence and is letting Obama essentially take over two months in advance is awful, both foolish and, IMHO, a betrayal of the people who elected him (Bush).
Oh, he was probably quite liberal in many areas to begin with - but I think a lot of the lavish entitlement programs and foreign aid, many of which are related to his second term, were his attempt to show people that he was not the eeevil George Bush after all. Of course, he got no credit from the press for all the liberal things he did, either, so that didn’t work.
Hey, why doesn’t Bush act like Barack Obama or Joe Biden, and simply deny and avoid the fact that he’s ever done anything wrong in his life? I appreciate the candor - most politicians will tell you that butter doesn’t melt in their mouths.
What’s with the sudden rash of articles where Bush is beating himself up? Has he suddenly lost all self-respect?
Re#35 I heard Rove in an interview and the numbers were astounding. There was no tsunami for 0bama. Despite all odds, it was winnable for the GOP, despite the unprecedented fraud of the MSM and McCain. I get ill thinking about those GOP voters that stayed home. Too many look at total vote count. For example, 0bama beat McCain by 200,000 in Ohio but McCain got 300,000 less than W in ‘04 there. By way of further example, loss of control the House and Senate in ‘06 turned on 80,000 total votes out of something like 40 million or so cast. *sighing, sadly*
Disgust over the Clinton scandals undoubtedly cost Gore some votes in 2000, but I can’t imagine Bill Clinton ever admitting that some people voted for Bush in 2000 because of him.
There are a great number of reasons for an 0bama victory. Taking or assigning blame are equally futile. The search for reasons seem to always ignore the elephant in the room.
Obama is not that intelligent nor is he the great speaker we have been told. He was spewed forth from the Alinsky school and then straight into the Chicago Machine. Even at that, if he had been Barry O’Brien, a few years removed from the Illinois legislature, most of us would not even have heard his name.
His qualifications for being President were, running for President and reading from a teleprompter. If Barry O’Brien had even mentioned running for the presidency he would have been laughed to scorn and been made an object of ridicule.
It is my opinion that he won both the Democratic nomination and the POTUS for no other reason than he was black. If we agree that Barry O’Brien wouldn’t have had a chance and that Obama exhibits nothing unique in leadership abilities or knowledge; we must conclude that he won only because of the amount of melanin in his skin.

You were Obama’s whole campaign you moron!(GWB=McCain=get even with Obama) , They went door to door banging, “This is your last chance to vote against Bush”. GWB was definitely the star of election and the democrat’s gift that keeps on giving victories. Can we keep him on somehow? maybe party chief like Howard Dean??
