HARRISBURG, Pa. -- MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews may be considering a run for U.S. Senate in 2010, a Pennsylvania Democratic party leader says.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reported that Matthews met with state party leaders this past week in Washington to discuss a possible bid to unseat Republican Sen. Arlen Specter.

"Party official Mary Isenhour said she left the meeting feeling that Matthews still hadn't made up his mind."

I guess she didn't have a tingly feeling going up her leg from Matthews.

Too bad Franken finally lost, he and Matthews would make real “bookends” in the Senate.

I bet it's only a matter of timing. Once Matthews declares, he's off the air at MSNBC and won't be able to help make Obama successful.

He'll put off his official announement for as long as possible, in order to stay on the air.

Arlen “Hannibal” Specter should not run again. Get a real Republican in there to defeat Matthews.

Sheesh: like Hillary “Her Thighness” Clinton and Al “I Make Rape Jokes” Franken, Matthews will be the classic carpetbagger.

Matthews timing may not be very good. By 2010 Obama’s socialism will be in collapse and the 2010 election may look like 1966 for the Dems.

We've heard this rumor circulating for some time now.

However, we've all been waiting with bated breath as to whether Matthews would run as a Democrat or a Republican. (exteeeeeeeeme sarcasm)

But-but-but I thought the liberal establishment LIKED Arlen Specter.

Why, oh why, are they attacking him so unmercifully? Chris Matthews running against ANYBODY has to be cruel and unusual punishment for voters anywhere.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Snarlin’ Arlen knocked out of the senate, but not in 2010, when we need every Republican vote we can get, and not against Chris Matthews, the yellow-haired drooler.

Oh God.

Even among talking heads he stands out as utterly incompetent. Is there no limit to this guys ego? I am surprised that he can show his head in public after the thrashing Jon Stewart gave him on the Daily Show. I have never met anyone liberal or conservative who had anything good to say about the guy.

Unseating Specter is a noble aim and should be on the minds of all Pennsylvanians. That said, replace Arlen with a good conservative and not a clown like Chrissie.

Heaven forbid...especially if Al Franken still manages to finagle the Minnesota seat from Norm Coleman.

Then we'll have the Bobsy Twins: High stung and Unstrung.

You could go for it, since Hillary didn’t live in NY when she ran for senate.

The Republicans, at every political level, continue to have very difficult times winning in all of the blue states, so having decent conservatives running in all of the blue states may still continue to lead to big losses by them in ‘10, ‘12, and beyond. Since the 1950’s, having decent conservatives running in Massachusetts hasn’t worked out very well in most circumstances, and conservatives remain clueless about what to do about states like Massachusetts other than vote with their feet and try again elsewhere. I fear that this same pattern of “conservative losing streaks” from within Massachusetts is now beginning to go national, starting in ‘09.
