It's a madhouse outside the gun shops, too (Barf Alert)
The Newport News Daily Press ^ | November 19, 2008 | Tamara Dietrich

Posted on 11/28/2008 11:54:39 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

A black man gets elected president and half the country dives for the panic room, buying up guns and squirreling away supplies like fatalists awaiting the End of Days.

That's an exaggeration, of course.

Barack Obama is biracial, not black.

And it's not half the country diving, but a goodly portion of us, judging by soaring gun sales post-Election Day that have even hit Hampton Roads.

"Stock up on guns, ammunition, and canned goods," a reader named "Church Slave" suggests in our online Topix system. "And maybe a candy bar or two."

I'm no stranger to the idea of laying in supplies for lean times; I have Mormons in the family.

What is new is the drumbeat of imminent doom running through feedback posts as readers digest the idea of Barack Obama in the White House.

"Hee hee heeeee ..." chortles "HG Robinson" in the very first post to reporter Peter Dujardin's story last week on the local run on weaponry.

"Clearly President Obama is looking to ban handguns and close loopholes in the law first chance he can. ... You gun nuts better stock up now."

First, Obama hasn't said he wants to ban handguns. And second, my own theory is that HG is a so-called gun nut, himself or herself, just priming the pump.

I have similar suspicions about a poster who signs off as "Tyrone" (really? Not Denzel or Tyrell or Sambo?) and taunts that he will "break into your house and rape you" and "Nobody should have guns but us thugs!"

Sure enough, some dupe bites.

"Bring it on Tyrone," growls a "mr white," "and you will be one DEAD African!!!!!"

Intelligent discourse, it's not — it's the pointless baiting and biting you get when a dog chases its own tail.

Contrary to Ms. Dietrich’s ignorance, Obama has stated that he wants to ban handguns. That doesn’t mean that he’ll start pushing on Jan. 21; but if at any time he thinks he can pull it off, he will most certainly try.

> I see you and Audrey both are parisoners in good standing at the Our Lady of the Presumptous Assumption church.

Actually, I’m a Freemason — does that help?

> I really liked the snarky “you yanks” that you tossed in. Of course you do not understand that to call anyone who lives outside of the New England states a “Yankee” is considered rather offensive by many, including myself.

I suppose that if you visited DownUnder where I live, you would needlessly live in a state of perpetual offense.

DownUnder everybody in the US is a Yank. Just like everyone living in the UK is a Pom, and everyone living in Canada is a Canuck, and everybody living in New Zealand is a Kiwi, and everyone living in Ausralia talks funny and wishes he were a Kiwi but is actually an Ozzy instead.

That’s just the natural order of things: I didn’t make the rules, I just enforce them.

> You see, terrorists are cowards and they go after those who are weak and can not defend themselves... They will occur in places like Paris, London, Berlin, Toronto, Vancouver, Sydney...

That may be so, and if they do they are fools. There are parts of Sydney that the jihadis would be well advised to stay out of with both feet. The Ozzys have some pretty tough customers in Sydney, and after Bali they have ZERO TOLERANCE and no patience with muslim terrorists.

And so do their Kiwi mates.

> might be among some of the better candidates for dehydrating and canning.

If you are getting New Zealand apples, chances are you might also be able to get NZ apricots and cherries from the Otago region (central South Island). They have a depth and intensity of flavor that has to be tasted to be believed. And they dry/preserve extremely well.

Our “in season” is exactly opposite to yours. That said, the majority of our crops are coolstored for export.

Duh!1©? Well, I sure hope you won't consider the "DUH1" I have been calling him copyright infringement, LOL!

I can't decide whether Duh1 or Zero is more appropriate for the baby killing, free speech squashing, gun grabbing empty suit that far too many stupid Americans got conned in to voting for.

We can survive a corrupt, incompetent, even criminal President ( just look at Mr. Bill... )--

What we can't survive is a gullible, greedy, envious electorate...( "we in charge now" )

Stand by, it's going to get "interesting," in the Chinese Curse sense of the word...

> We are rather accustomed to storing extra provisions, being at over 9,000 feet (> 3,000 meters elevation).

Have you ever seen the Popular Mechanics Shop Notes books? They are incredible! First produced during the Depression and running for many years as an annual thereafter, “Shop Notes” is sorta like the “Farmer’s Almanack” for Real Men.

(I like the “Farmer’s Almanack”, too...)

They were chock-full of stuff that you could build: from shop machinery to Christmas toys, as well as farming/gardening tips — the sort of stuff that would be useful to know during The Great Depression if you were trying to subsist.

Long out-of-print, they have been reproduced and are available from an outfit called “Lee Valley” in Canada. Which is also where you can buy the very finest tools available on this planet. (really!)

http://www.leevalley.com/home.aspx

Their website is excellent: but their printed catalogs are works-of-art, the sort of thing you’d be happy to keep on your bookshelf.

There ya go! I hope that’s useful info: I swear by my copies.

I canceled my subscription to the daily press years ago. I only buy the thanksgiving paper to find out who has guns on sale for black Friday.

I don’t really expect to have a flat tire on any of my vehicles. I still carry spare tires and jacks. It is better to be prepared.

Me too. And I carry a small compressor that plugs into my cigaret socket: that way I can also pump up tyres for other folk stuck on our roads (it can be a long way from here-to-there in NZ).

I’ve also got one of those aerosol bombs in the boot of my car that you can shoot into your flat tyre: it will inflate the tyre with foam if there is a puncture. Lasts long enough to get to a petrol station for a proper repair: even longer sometimes.

Being Prepared is what Boy Scouts do best.

I do carry a small compressor also. I had a bad experience with a “spare tire in a can” several years ago. I left it in a tire and found it to be corrosive.

It has nothing to do with the race of the President-elect. It has everything do to with the gun-grabbers in congress who now see an opportunity to illegally steal our legal guns.

Ouch! That wouldn’t do the rim any good at all.

If I use it, the tyre only goes for as long as it takes to get to a petrol station or a garage for a proper repair.

Once or twice I’ve sold my “spare tyre in a can” to motorists stuck on the motorway, just so they can get moving again and stop blocking the lane. You’ve never seen gratitude until you’ve seen someone trying to hand over a $50 note for a $10 tin of puncture repair!

(Naturally, I give them $40 change because I don’t believe in profiteering thru the misfortune of others. Still, I’m quite aware that it saves them $100 towing and $150 traffic violation for stopping on the motorway. I like to think that what goes around comes around.)

What these people are doing is trying to help the economy. They are spreading the wealth around and getting the money into circulation - Nothing wrong with that.

“I have no intention of taking away folks’ guns.” - Barack Obama

Shouldn’t we believe him?

“FACT: Barack Obama voted to allow reckless lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearms industry.”

“FACT: Barack Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting.”

“FACT: Barack Obama has endorsed a 500% increase in the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition.”

“FACT: Barack Obama has endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership.”

“FACT: Barack Obama voted to uphold local gun bans and the criminal prosecution of people who use firearms in self-defense.”

“FACT: Barack Obama refused to sign a friend-of-the-court Brief in support of individual Second Amendment rights in the Heller case.”

“FACT: Barack Obama was a member of the Board of Directors of the Joyce Foundation, the leading source of funds for anti-gun organizations and “research”.”

“FACT: Barack Obama supported a proposal to ban gun stores within 5 miles of a school or park, which would eliminate almost every gun store in America.”

The plain fact is alot of you Yanks ARE buying guns this weekend. Alot of this purchasing IS driven by the Obama win. And alot of you ARE concerned that he is going to try to take your guns away. And alot of you ARE stocking up on ammo. And alot of you ARE expecting an increase in crime.

The real reason is because Hussein has NOT shown his vault birth certificate and the pending SCOTUS lawsuits!!!

SILLY JOURNALIST.
Its not the color of his skin it is that he is a Socialist which makes him a threat to Anericans and the US Constitution.
Just as the founders armed themselves to gain freedom, people are fearing they need to arm themselves to keep that freedom.
You can cover for the guy as much as you want but the truth is not black and white. It is American and UnAmerican.
