Los Angeles, CA (AP) -- Anti-animal research activists are claiming responsibility for torching two vehicles they thought belonged to a researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Activists connected to the Animal Liberation Front say they destroyed the vehicles on Nov. 20 to protest the work of Goran Lacan, a researcher who used animals while investigating treatments for morbid obesity and eating disorders. The group accidentally targeted the wrong address, . . .

Oh I hope these freaks spend a long time in jail and the organization is sued into bankruptcy.
I think we should accidentally give them life in prison!
Have them over to a barbecue. Theirs.
ALF strikes again
They’re anti-animal because they hate animals; conversely I’m pro animal because I like to eat them!
But some animal rights activists contend that the use of any animals in research is morally wrong, and that aggressive tactics, including violence, are justified in attempting to end the practice.
Jerry Vlasak, a Los Angeles physician and frequent spokesman for the animal rights movement, maintains that researchers bring the violence on themselves and that any harm to humans is minimal compared to the suffering of lab animals.

They have SWAT?
I dont understand why these people are not treated the same way as people who bomb government building or black churches. Seems to me like no matter what they do, their actions are treated as petty vandalism and not terrorism (politically/religiously motivated violence).
Yes I know. The wimpy weenies that pass for judges and lawmakers now days would never go for it.
I can still dream.
Welcome to FR.
These people are tagged as domestic terrorists by the FBI and all law enforcement. There’s a huge FBI investigation in progress on this CA group of ALF, they have terrorized and bombed in Santa Cruz, Los Angeles and other areas.
I will now get flamed, but who cares?
I don’t approve of these violent acts.
Having said that, there are many “so called researchers” who make their fortunes off so called animal research. Not only are they often unethical and inhumane in their treatment of animals, but the research is often NOT NECESSARY.
Furthermore there is much animal research that is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE to the research we need for humans.
I donate to NAVS,( National anti-vivisection Society) a reputable pro ethical- animal research organization that is not violent and primarily is into educating people about ethical animal research.
There are two sides to this “animal research” issue. It is not an all or nothing case. The big problem with nutjobs like these people in the bombing is that they hurt the cause of true ethical animal research proponents.
Thanks for noting that. I fully agree, and if I’m not mistaken, much of the unnecessary ‘research’ is done to satisfy government regulations.
Also much of the uneeded research is to redo research for “new “ cosmetic products so the corporations can cover their , well you know what.
the most dangerous part, besides the cruel suffering of animals, is that the research is soooo counter productive to actually helping humans...we are now technologically so more advanced that this animal research just often leads true effective research down a blind alley.
You won’t get flamed from me.
At the same time there is absolutely no excuse for violence against humans over supposed animal abuse. The ALF considers any use of animals for reseach as animal abuse and that’s just plain nuts. The majority of animals used at UC are mice, that’s what the firebombings in Santa Cruz were over.
You’re right, there are two sides to the story but the ALF are radical terrorists, IMO.
Collateral damage?
Why hasn’t this a$$hat Vlasack been stripped of his medical license and thrown in jail?
