The President and his family are at Camp David where they will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

The President called members of the Armed Forces stationed in remote locations worldwide to wish them a happy Thanksgiving and thank them for their service to our nation

President Bush on Thursday applauded Iraq's parliamentary vote approving an agreement allowing U.S. troops to remain for three more years, saying it "affirms the growth" of democracy there. LINK

President George W. Bush called Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday to convey his sympathy for the victims of the "despicable" attacks in Mumbai and offer US help. LINK

Former first lady Barbara Bush was doing well Wednesday following her surgery late Tuesday night to repair and seal a perforated ulcer, according to the surgeon who performed the operation. "She is up in a chair. She's very vigorous. She is in charge," said Dr. Patrick Reardon. "The first thing she did when her lips worked was to tell a joke." LINK

Doro: What role does faith play in your day-to-day life?

GWB: I've been in the Bible every day since I've been the President, and I have been affected by people's prayers a lot. I have found that faith is comforting, faith is strengthening, faith has been important....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I would advise politicians, however, to be careful about faith in the public arena. ...In other words, politicians should not be judgmental people based upon their faith. They should recognize -- as least I have recognized I am a lowly sinner seeking redemption, and therefore have been very careful about saying (accept) my faith or you're bad. In other words, if you don't accept what I believe, you're a bad person.

And the greatness of America -- it really is -- is that you can worship or not worship and be equally American. And it doesn't matter how you choose to worship; you're equally American. And it's very important for any President to jealously protect, guard, and strengthen that freedom.

Woo Hoo! Just sat down at the computer for the first time today and saw this thread.

Will have to think about which picture. It’s a toss up between the ones in post 36 and 39.

Good evening! Great photos of the President and the first lady.

I am convinced that President wish will come true and history will see him as liberator of millions of Afghans and Iraqis albeit the BDS lunatics think otherwise

MUST READ . . .

A DEBATE FANTASY, &c.
By Jay Nordlinger [I just love Jay — he shares our sincere appreciation for the vision, character and courage of President Bush!]

Can I indulge in a little fantasy? (No snickering or accusations, please.) I wish the GOP presidential nominee this year had said something like the following — perhaps in the last debate:

“Senator Obama keeps talking about President Bush. Well, I’m not President Bush. But I think he’s a fine man who has done many fine things. He looked the central evil of our time — Islamofascism — right in the eye, and didn’t blink. He has done necessary and hard and often unpopular things. He has had at least some role in keeping this country safe from murdering beasts for the past seven years — something no one thought possible. I have had my disagreements with President Bush, and he has made mistakes, as anyone would. But I’d sure as hell rather stand with him than with those who hate him and mock him and blacken his name.”

Would the GOP ticket have done less well at the polls? I doubt it. And the anathematization of President Bush, along with the weakness about him displayed by the Republican party, has been disgusting.

[Jay took the words out of my mouth. And because McCain did the exact opposite of what Jay recommended, he didn’t deserve to win the presidency!!]

BE THANKFUL FOR PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH
He will leave a safer America on January 20
By Don Surber

ON this national holiday when we give thanks to God for his blessings, I wish that everyone is near loved ones, from the homeless man at the shelter to the lonely rich man in his mansion.

As a nation, we have much to be thankful for. Topping my list, politically, is President Bush.

You can read the entire commentary here:

And just in case you missed it:

Steven Curtis Chapman has written a beautiful tribute to President Bush:

INTERVIEW EXCERPTS OF PRESIDENT BUSH AND THE FIRST LADY
by Doro Bush Koch, Storycorps

THE PRESIDENT: I would like to be a person remembered as a person who, first and foremost, did not sell his soul in order to accommodate the political process. I came to Washington with a set of values, and I’m leaving with the same set of values. And I darn sure wasn’t going to sacrifice those values; that I was a President that had to make tough choices and was willing to make them. I surrounded myself with good people. I carefully considered the advice of smart, capable people and made tough decisions. [Have I mentioned lately how much I love our President?!]

Dr. Deb, I'm in Tears from Listening to Steven Curtis Chapman's Beautiful Song about our Dear President; Thank you for the Link. I Give Thanks to God for President Bush, and Dread him Leaving the White House. When I Visited my Family, who are Mostly Dems, on Thanksgiving they Bashed him Repeatedly, and I'll just Never Understand their Irrational Hatred for him. It's Heartbreaking how this Good and Decent Man has been Treated by Many in our Nation.

Thank you, Silent-Jonny and Daisyscarlet for the Dose.

I totally agree, and wonder if any Republican who lost his seat this year will ever reconsider his decision not to stand with President Bush? This includes Michael Steele!!!
